New Journeys in the New Year

Greetings from the Holy Land!

Elia & I are enjoying our tour of the Holy Land very much. Here are a few highlights of our trip:

This is Qumran. It was in the cave you see in the center of this mountain that Bedouin goat herder teenagers discovered the first Dead Sea scrolls and changed the course of Bible scholarship. So awesome to see where this happened!

“After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.” ‭‭John‬ ‭6:1‬. This seemingly insignificant verse took on so much meaning for me as we sailed across the Sea of Galilee. The water was calm and the view of the surrounding hills was glorious. To know that I was looking at the same landscape Jesus saw and sailing where Jesus sailed (and walked) brought a new dimension to the Bible. I quietly praised God for sending the light of His Son just for me!

At the entrance of Hezekiah’s tunnel. He built this structure to divert the flow of the water away from the Assyrians who were attacking them. The water emanates from an underground spring and runs about 500 meters through the tunnel. The plan was to wade through the tunnel but time and temperature were factors which prevented this. We will again on Sunday. See 2 Chronicles 32:30 and 2 Kings 20:20 for a Bible reference to this tunnel.

I look forward to sharing more of our journey's with you when we return!

In His Service,

Pastor Gresford Thomas

Prayer for Lincoln

RECENTLY Ana Roa made arrangements for Pastor Thomas to meet and have breakfast with the new mayor of Lincoln, Stan Nadar.  They spent almost an hour together talking. The mayor asked for our church to pray for him and for the civic and community leaders in Lincoln. Pastor had a special prayer with the Mayor for a successful year here in Lincoln.

Yuba City Adventist School Christmas Program

Yuba City SDA School had a lovely Christmas program.  This is the school our church helps to support.  Pray for all these young people to receive the knowledge they need and especially for their love of Jesus.

Weekly Food Distribution Reaches Many in Community

More than 40 community people are attending the food give-away on Mondays from 12-1 p.m.  If you know of someone who needs help with food, please invite them to our Better Living Center.  We extend lots of thanks to Carlos Resendes and Pastor Thomas for driving trucks to the food source, loading up with a variety of food and unloading at the BLC where many volunteers sort the food on tables.  Lyn Moreau oversees this project and welcomes the people.

Weekly Crochet Group Creates Blessings

The crochet class on Wednesday mornings from 10-12, has been very busy making hats for cancer patients and newborns.  Marie Peever just completed a beautiful yellow hat and Marilyn Bitzer just completed a unique colorful hat. You are always welcome to come and join the class in the Better Living Center, it’s free and it’s fun.

Reboot Your Prayer Life
Church Week of Prayer & New Intercessory Prayer Groups
During the first week of January, a number of us gathered together to learn more about prayer and intercede for our church family. We were blessed and know God will continue working in answer to our prayers.

If you sense God calling you to intercede more specifically for our church family, please join one of our new prayer groups:

Sabbath Mornings, 8:45-9:15 a.m.
Sunday Evenings, 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Next Clothing Distribution - January 26, 2018

The free clothing distribution will continue on the 4th Friday of each month from 10-11 am in the Better Living Center.  Volunteers help by removing the gently used clothing from the tubs and arranging the items on tables according to gender and size. There is even one table set aside for children to pick out a toy or two to take home with them.  When leaving with a big bag of clothing we see happy smiles and receive generous “thank yous.”

Wise words:

Never let an opportunity pass to say a kind or encouraging thing to or about someone.

Praise good work done regardless of who did it.

"Be filled with the Holy Spirit and constantly guided by Him." Ephesians 5:18
