Greetings from the Holy Land!
Elia & I are enjoying our tour of the Holy Land very much. Here are a few highlights of our trip:
This is Qumran. It was in the cave you see in the center of this mountain that Bedouin goat herder teenagers discovered the first Dead Sea scrolls and changed the course of Bible scholarship. So awesome to see where this happened!
“After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.” John 6:1. This seemingly insignificant verse took on so much meaning for me as we sailed across the Sea of Galilee. The water was calm and the view of the surrounding hills was glorious. To know that I was looking at the same landscape Jesus saw and sailing where Jesus sailed (and walked) brought a new dimension to the Bible. I quietly praised God for sending the light of His Son just for me!
At the entrance of Hezekiah’s tunnel. He built this structure to divert the flow of the water away from the Assyrians who were attacking them. The water emanates from an underground spring and runs about 500 meters through the tunnel. The plan was to wade through the tunnel but time and temperature were factors which prevented this. We will again on Sunday. See 2 Chronicles 32:30 and 2 Kings 20:20 for a Bible reference to this tunnel.
I look forward to sharing more of our journey's with you when we return!
In His Service,
Pastor Gresford Thomas
