Volume 2, Issue 2 - February 9, 2018

Dear Church Family,

I am so thankful that God is with us in every change. That is an assurance that I lean on every day. It is especially meaningful to me right now. As you may know, I have been asked to also pastor the Penn Valley Adventist Church, giving me three churches to balance. That means we need to make some adjustments so that I can continue to serve the Lincoln Amazing Grace church as fully as I would like to.

Please come to the church business meeting tomorrow (Friday, 2/10/18) at 5:30 p.m. so we vote on how best to move forward. Our church family needs all of our input and help in this important time of transition.

Though it may seem that this change will prevent us from reaching the vision God has given us to reach Lincoln, I believe that “the vision is yet for an appointed time… thought it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3.

I know God is working in all of this, and that this may be His appointed way to get us all involved so we can fulfill His mission for us.

In His Service,

Pastor Gresford Thomas

5:30 p.m. Sabbath, February 10, 2018
All church members please attend this important meeting. We will pray together, hear departmental and treasury updates and vote on changes to our church service.
Hypertension Seminar Update

Our 30 Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control program has reached the half way mark.  Caren White has been faithful in presenting a health nugget at each meeting. The group participate in a discussion after each video about what was learned. Participants have been given valuable information to take home and start applying to their life.

Everyone is encouraged to take their blood pressure three times each day.  One of the best ways to lower blood pressure is to exercise, drink at least five glasses of water every day,  and get some sun exposure to increase their Vitamin D level. Regular sleep every night can also have a benefit to lowering blood pressure. Melatonin is made with sleep especially when we get hours before midnight 2-3 hours of sleep before midnight is best.

Many thanks to Jennifer Higgins and the health ministry team for organizing this seminar.

Prayer Retreat at Leoni Meadows, March 9-11

Northern California Conference's 17th Annual Prayer Retreat will be held at Leoni Meadows, March 9-11, 2018.  You will be blessed as you listen to the testimony of Rick and Cindy Mercer.  They will take you on a journey, from a marriage once destined to be destroyed, to their discovery that they had found purpose in their pain.  Their greatest passion is sharing the powerful tool of prayer.  Rick is a pastor serving in the Carolina Conference.  Cindy is the prayer and women’s ministries director for the Carolina Conference and works as a registered nurse. Holy Land Adventures

Pastor Thomas and his wife, Elia, had an outstanding journey to the Holy Land.  They met in Pleasant Hills with ministers from the Northern California Conference and their spouses making a group of 93. A 15 hours flight from San Francisco landed them in Amman, Jordan where they were met by three busses with local tour guides.

During their time in the Holy Land, Pastor & Mrs. Thomas visited the Jordan River, Mount Nebo, Petra, Masada, Ein Gedi, the Dead Sea, Qumran, Jericho, Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, Sea of Galilee, Caesarea Philippi, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Magdala, Herodium, Megiddo, Caesarea Maritime, Jerusalem, Hezekiah’s Tunnel, Western Wall, Pool of Siloam, House of Caiphas, Garden Tomb, Mount of Olives, Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum), and the Israel Museum.

He's not here! Pastor & Mrs. Thomas at Jesus' empty tomb.

Two highlights stand out for Pastor Thomas. Riding in a boat on the smooth and beautiful Sea of Galilee was special since this was a place Jesus had been several occasions.  It was also special to be on Mt. Nebo where Moses saw the Promised Land before dying.

Other highlights included “swimming” in the Dead Sea one night. Pastor didn’t want to float away in the dark, so stayed close to shore. Floating was a different experience and the water left a different feeling on his skin. Visiting the busy Wailing Wall gave Elia a chance to leave a prayer in the wall as countless others have done through the centuries. And celebrating communion with the other pastors near Jesus’ garden tomb created special memories.

They felt very safe while there and the weather was nice, similar to here in Lincoln.

Pastor is planning to have a program for us and show some of his pictures and give much more information on their wonderful tour.  Stay tuned!  We are happy they had this tour and we are happy they are now back home.  God is good!

Del Delker, age 93, Passes Away

SADNESS:  Del Delker, a SDA musical legend, passed away January 31, 2018 in Porterville, CA.  She sang for the Voice of Prophecy for many years.  “The Love of God” was one of her songs that was loved by many.

Member Profile: Martha Thesman

Let’s get better acquainted with Martha Thesman.  She was born in Shafter, California to a SDA farm family where she was the youngest of six children. On the farm they grew mostly potatoes and onions; she worked and earned money for school clothes and some of her tuition. Martha went to Monterey Bay Academy the first year it opened.  The property was purchased from the government for $1 and had been a military camp.  The students lived in barracks that first year and over several years new buildings were built. Today MBA is a beautiful SDA boarding school.

La Sierra College was where she headed after graduation from MBA.  She took her 2 year pre-nursing classes in one year and then went to Glendale for 3 years of nurses training.  While at La Sierra she met Bill who was in his junior year when he was called to the Army for two years and then returned to complete his degree.  In the meantime Martha became a nurse.  They were married in 1956 in the Shafter SDA Church and the temperature was 113, so hot the cake frosting melted and the layers started to slide.

They started working for Adventist Healthcare spending time at Paradise Valley, Takoma Hospital, Greenville, Tenn., Simi Valley, and off to Hawaii for 11 years where Martha was OR Manager and later became Vice President for Nursing.  She attended the University of Hawaii and received her Master’s in Nursing Administration.  Bill spent his time in the Accounting Offices.  Later Martha was Operating Room Manager at Mercy General here in Folsom.

They have two sons who both work for Kaiser Hospital, Jeff is in administration and Todd is in construction. Each son has one son and one daughter, making Martha and Bill happy grandparents.

Martha says they are mostly “homebodies” but they did take an interesting trip to China with Dr. Ing and others from Weimar.  Seeing the Great Wall was one of the highlights.  After retirement they sold their large home in Rocklin and moved to a smaller home at the Kollenberg “farm” where they enjoy gardening and other activities. Martha loves all flowers, especially pink and yellow ones.

Her passion is fellowship for those in the church needing help.  She has a wonderful Bible Study on Mondays from 10-11 a.m. sharp.  Study begins with prayer, singing a song, doing a few stretch exercises and then the lesson for the day, closing with prayers for those on the prayer list.  New members are always welcome.  Call Martha at 916-782-5838 to get directions...Blessings await you! Martha loves to cook and makes delicious vegetarian meals that make you say yummmmmm.  She has been active in the Lincoln Church since 2004. Martha is loved!
