Nighttime cats with making of / New poster series in the making / August conventions
August 2019

Dear illustration enthusiasts,

It's only a small newsletter this time, as there's not much new finished artwork to show. I'm painting my way through some new pictures veeeery slowly, and as weird as that seems, this feels very stressful to me. I always get annoyed and anxious if I work on something for too long and can't get to the finish line quickly. Ah well, an end is in sight I'll show you the results next month!

Have a great summer,

Dante and cats

This was a private commission, painted in my Tiny Inklings style.
Here's the making of:

I design some thumbnail sketches and then draw my final sketch on watercolour paper.

Digital light and dark sketch. I usually don't do value sketches like this before starting into these little paintings, but since this was for a client, this stage was very useful to them.

These pieces are always coloured ink on watercolour paper, in this case I used Rohrer & Klingner's Senegal Blue. I prepare the ink in three hues before I start a painting: one is pure ink, the other two are diluted with water, creating middle and light tones.

Then I start to paint but by bit and layer by layer.

In the end I add the whiskers with white acrylic paint, and the original ist done. I scan the artwork and clean up the file so it resembles the original as much as possible.
Finally, I frame and mat the picture for the client, and off it goes with the post.

New poster series

These are work in progress details from a new poster series I'm painting currently. These illustrations take forever, but I'm happy with how they turn out. The first three images of the series will premier at the Eurofurence Art Show and Veganes Sommerfest Berlin this month (I hope I can get the prints for these ready in time) and I'll also reveal them to the internet after the Art Show opening.

Eurofurence Berlin

I'm going to make my way into the friendly and weird world of furry fandom again this year, as part of the Eurofurence Art Show and their artist market Dealer's Den. My new poster series will premier at the Art Show, as well as some new originals.

Event: Eurofurence 25, 14 - 18 August 2019 (Art Show and Dealer's Den only  15 - 17 August)
Venue: Estrel Hotel, Sonnenallee 225, 12057 Berlin
Opening hours: Dealer's Den: 15 - 17 August, 11 am - 6 pm (the convention itself and the Art Show have different times from that)
More info: convention website

Veganes Sommerfest Berlin

I'm glad I can make it to this cool vegan festival again this year. I'll not only be selling prints there, but also be part of the first small art show they are holding, and I will be hosting a workshop. It will be an easy-going painting hour in which anyone, artistically experienced or not, can help paint a giant vegan poster.

Event: Veganes Sommerfest Berlin, 23 - 25 August (I will only be selling art on the 23rd and 24th)
Venue: Alexanderplatz Berlin
Opening hours: Fri 12 pm - 8 pm, Sat 11 am - 8 pm, Sun 12 pm - 6 pm (I won't be selling on Sunday)
Workshop: Sunday 12pm in the workshop tent
