SUPPORT CONGRESSMAN NADLER AND HELP HELL'S KITCHEN VOTE ABSENTEE

Saturday, 5/23, 1-3pm

Join friends and neighbors at a text bank to support Congressman Nadler's campaign!

Congressman Jerry Nadler, winner of the 2019 Hell's Kitchen Democrats Award for Outstanding Leadership, has been a relentless defender of our country’s democracy and our Constitution’s fundamental promise of equality for all, proudly standing on the front lines in the fight for LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, racial justice, and the First Amendment rights guaranteeing freedom of expression and religion.

After being elected to the Chairmanship of the House Judiciary Committee in January 2019, Congressman Nadler created one of the most ambitious legislative agendas ever before the committee – overseeing the passage of bills to strengthen our gun laws, reform our criminal justice system, protect the right to vote and access to the ballot box, ensure equal anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ individuals, create a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers, end forced arbitration for workers, and lower prescription drug costs, among many other accomplishments – all while carrying out a robust oversight agenda aimed at holding the Trump Administration accountable for threats to our democracy and constitution.

Our text bank will help people in the community register for absentee ballots and fill them in on the latest developments from the campaign!

NOW NYC: "Join us for our first Activist Power Hour where we'll screen Suppressed: The Fight to Vote and share how you can act now to Grab Trump by the Ballot.

Suppressed: The Fight to Vote recounts Stacey Abrams' historic run for Governor and is a short but essential film on voter suppression in the 2018 midterm election.  Instead of electing Stacey Abrams the state's first Black woman Governor, the rampant tactics that prevented students and people of color from voting made headlines.  This film is a wake-up call for how much still needs to be done to end voter suppression in the U.S.

After the film, we'll share with you how to take action to Grab Trump By the Ballot.

Join us for our Activist Power Hours!

We'll learn the issues and take action together to register voters in swing states, get insider tips on having more effective and persuasive political conversations and connect to phone banking for women’s rights candidates and pivotal get out the vote efforts!  Stay tuned.  We'll be organizing more Activist Power Hours on Wednesdays at noon.

You must RSVP HERE to participate

We'll send the Zoom link the evening before the event."

APRIL JOB LOSSES

Economic Policy Institute’s (EPI) Elise Gould writes:

After a sharp fall in March, payroll employment dropped like a rock in April.  It’s as if all the gains in employment since 2000 were wiped out.  Total job losses over the last two months would fill all 30 currently empty Major League Baseball stadiums 16 times over.  It’s as if all the jobs in all of the states beginning with the letter “M” simply disappeared in the last month.  That’s all the jobs in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, and Montana combined.

The job losses in April were far more widespread than the job losses in March.  There were acute losses in leisure and hospitality (-7.7 million), education and health services (-2.5 million), professional and business services (-2.1 million), retail trade (-2.1 million), manufacturing (-1.3 million), and other services (-1.3 million).
