Annual Sustainability Report 2018-19 - featuring RCE Severn projects
We’re proud to release our 3rd Annual Sustainability Report (ASR) which shows how the University is delivering on its sustainability goals and also contributing towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The report celebrates top stories of change from last academic year including our rise to 1st place in the sustainability league table of all UK universities.

The 2018-19 ASR is our first digital only ASR, in support of the bold move made by the University, to cease production of the hard copy prospectus and move to an interactive digital prospectus linked with social media content, through the innovative Who Cares campaign. This campaign is leading the way in the sector and saves over 30,000 prospectuses being produced annually; a move that not just saves on production costs but reduces significant volumes of waste.

Featured activities that continue to build our RCE Severn learning partnerships include:
  • Radical Sustainability – this masterclass collaboration with corporate sustainability business leaders, Interface, brought together staff, students and senior leaders in 25 companies across our region, to explore the critical role sustainability plays in the future of business.
  • Soundbites -  this ‘makerspace’ project led by Dr Michelle Williams, course lead in Product Design and Dr Matthew Lovett, subject leader in Music and Media, delivered practical learning on sustainability and connected students with local children to learn about the circular economy and re-purpose audio devices from waste.
  • Forward Thinking – this conference was designed and delivered by our Events Management students, connecting academics from our Business School with local businesses, to explore and develop their expertise on sustainability and the resilience challenges organisations are facing.
  • Celebrating Community – an event in partnership with and hosted by Gloucester Cathedral celebrating student-community action for the UN global goals through the Live Smart Challenge.

RCE Severn is part of a global network of RCEs endorsed by the United Nations University. The RCEs were instrumental in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), translating its global objectives into the context of their local communities. The RCEs now support implementation of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD which followed the DESD.
