Model Climate Conference and Local Action Summit

Schools from across the region attended model climate conferences in Cheltenham and Solihul in November to carry out their own debates on progress towards the Paris Agreement. Teams of students had to represent 15 countries and negotiate raising ambition for more global action on climate change.

They also engaged in mini-workshops for local action on topics such as energy, food waste, travel and recycling, and were encouraged to make pledges for their own action back at school.

The conference was run by the Interclimate Network.

RCE Severn is part of a global network of RCEs endorsed by the United Nations University. The RCEs were instrumental in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), translating its global objectives into the context of their local communities. The RCEs now support implementation of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD which followed the DESD.
