God’s Complete Provision

Nehemiah 9:19-22, (NIV®)
“Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the desert. … You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst. For forty years you sustained them in the desert; they lacked nothing.”

Nehemiah was leading people who were tired, grumpy, and complaining. They needed to be reminded of what their ancestors had endured, and all God had done for them. During their Exodus sojourn, there had been no grocery stores, no clothing stores, no hardware stores. Yet, they lacked nothing. God gave them food, water, good health, and clothes that didn’t wear out. They may have gotten tired of them and wished for another color, but those garments were not wearing out! This passage is a beautiful portrayal of God’s complete provision for His people. He knew everything they might need, even before they did, and made provision for it. When we are tempted to trust in sources other than God, we need to remind ourselves of all He has done for us and all He has promised to do.

THINK ABOUT IT
Create a list of every God-provision you can think of in your life—past and present. Then, humbly thank Him, declaring your trust in all the provision yet to come.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great compassion and carefulness to watch over Your people. I am grateful for the completeness of Your provision in my life, and I am confident You will meet my future needs. I am thankful to belong to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
