PITTSBURGH, PA - Yesterday afternoon, Sheriff K9 Deputy Jeff Belback and bloodhound Ranger were dispatched to Moon Township at the request of Robinson Township Police to search for an adolescent male who had fled his residence after an argument with a parent. The child has serious health conditions, so it was imperative to locate him as soon as possible.
Deputy Belback and K9 Ranger were greeted by Moon Township Police and the child’s parents, who provided a pillow to gather a scent from. After K9 Ranger gained a scent, he began tracking in the direction that the child had fled. The track lead about 7/10 mile west to Patrick’s Pub & Grille in Coraopolis. The owner of the establishment was questioned about the missing child and they believed he was loitering in the parking lot within the hour. After reviewing surveillance, the owner was able to confirm the child was in the parking lot and he then walked off-screen.
K9 Ranger would continue tracking based on the earlier track and surveillance, which lead to a wooded area behind a vacant business in the 200 block of Broadhead Road. Around 4:15 PM, about an hour and a half into the search, Deputy Belback and K9 Ranger located the missing child exiting said wooded area. The child was evaluated by paramedics, and Moon Township Police continued further involvement with the child and his family.
