December 2018 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Are you enjoying the holidays? In addition to the music, smiles and generosity of this time of year, I have been inspired by the deeper colors of the season. Among other new oil pastels, I created Winter Light (see below), which I painted as the clouds were gathering, prior to a recent storm that brought much needed rain to California.

During this time of gift giving and receiving, I am so appreciative of everyone who supports the arts and artists. Throughout the year, art provides a needed refuge of inspiration and aspiration, of beauty and thoughtfulness, and of unity and universality. For all of this, and for you, I am grateful.

Shows, Award, and Additional New Art

The wonderful Channing Peake Gallery Show (105 E. Anapamu, First Floor) continues until February 21. I was deeply honored to have the prominent juror and artist, Nancy Gifford, award Second Place to one of my paintings (see photo above). She said this about my work:
"In his piece “Working Together” he is delving into the exuberance of his rendition of action painting. An action painting satisfies when you can feel the energy and freedom inherent in the process of its creation. That excitement exuded from his canvas and he was also able to convey a depth of field through his actions which gave the work a strength beyond and deeper than its surface. It indeed is all “Working Together”. Thank you.

I also have two pieces in the Faulkner Gallery Holiday Show: Openings and When Flying. The festive First Thursday reception for this Holiday Show will be on December 6 at 40 E Anapamu St. between 5:00 and 7:30 pm. I hope to see you there. The show will be available to view all month.

In addition to Winter Light, I have been creating oil pastels that reflect the colorful beauty of a completed trip around the sun, such as Seasons (see below). My new acrylics have been inspired by moving, natural phenomena, such as Bubble Feeding (shown below).Other new works can be seen here

Quote of the Month and Holiday Wishes

Since the holidays are a time of reflection, gratitude and helping others, for my monthly quote I want to share this from Albert Schweitzer: "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."

I wish you a very special holiday season and a terrific New Year. Thank you for reading my newsletter and I look forward to hearing from you.

Warmest Wishes,
Andrew Roy
