October 2019 Newsletter

Are you enjoying the beautiful colors of fall? As a youth growing up in Alaska, during autumn I especially looked forward to the brilliant yellow leaves of birch and aspen trees, the vivid reds of the tundra, and the deep blue, endless skies.

Youth experience things so intensely, and art is such a positive way to express those intense feelings.

That is one reason why I am so happy to have my art juror selected to participate in the Abstract Art Collective's upcoming show Fascinations.....

Deep Within

Fascinations Show and More

The show Fascinations is part of Youth Interactive, which has launched a new program pairing student creatives with leading local, national and international artists. With an eye towards youthful intensity, I submitted two especially vibrant pieces for the show, both of which were selected: Dreamscape and Deep Within (shown above).

This exciting show will be held at the State Gallery, located at 1219 State Street, which is the original State Theatre. The State Gallery prides itself on showcasing "the best in professional artists and creators."

The 1st Thursday reception for Fascinations will take place on October 3rd from 5 - 8 pm. Also, on Friday, October 11, from 5 to 8pm, the State Gallery will kick off the 1st Annual Downtown Fine Art Festival with live music, beverages and food. You can see these pieces and other great art. I hope to see you there!

Autumn Intersections

New Work and Quote of the Month.

As part of my Group Psychology class at Antioch University, I taught students how to use and enjoy oil pastels. My demonstration piece, Beginnings, is shown above. I called it Beginnings because I hope it helped others in the class find a new, fulfilling form of expression.

Also, last month I painted Autumn Intersections (above). I remember laying in the tundra in Alaska after picking blueberries, and watching yellow and red leaves intersecting the clouds and brilliant blue sky. What are your favorite autumn memories?

Now for my quote of the month. Since art, especially art by youth and abstract art, involves so much imagination, I especially like this quote by Albert Einstein: "Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere."

Thank you for reading my newsletter and for supporting original contemporary abstract art. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,
