I write this month's message with a bit of disbelief - how is it almost the end of 2017! What a great year it has been for T.I.P., starting with the launch of the Thoroughbred Recreational Riding Incentive Program, to a record number of horse shows offering T.I.P. awards in 2017, to the inaugural T.I.P. Championships. And we're not done yet - it's Performance Award time! I hope you enjoy the information in this month's newsletter and that you have a great holiday season!

Performance Awards Due December 20!

The T.I.P. Performance Awards are the annual, self-reported Thoroughbred awards of The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program. The current Performance Award year is December 1, 2016 - November 30. 2017. All 2017 results must be submitted by December 20, 2017. All information about the Performance Awards as well as instructions on how to enter can be found on the website under the TB Owners & Riders tab.

What Horse Shows Are Included in the Performance Awards?

Thoroughbreds accumulate points at all horse shows, horse trials, and other horse events. Horse shows do not have to offer T.I.P. awards to be included in the Performance Awards. The Performance Awards are completely self-reported by the Thoroughbred’s owner or rider. This includes reporting of results from horse shows offering T.I.P. show divisions, classes or awards – the horse shows do not report Performance Award results to T.I.P. Please note, beginning in 2017 All Thoroughbred Shows should be included with open shows for purposes of the Performance Awards. 

What are the Performance Award Categories & Divisions?

There are twelve categories and a lot of divisions! A full list can be found on the website. Categories are Dressage, English Pleasure, Equitation, Eventing/CT, General, Halter, Hunter, Jumper, Western and three TCA Green OTTB categories for horses that raced in the past two years.There are also Junior Rider awards, select state-bred or residing awards (more on that below) and an award for horses adopted from the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. 

 

State Bred or Residing Awards 

Awards based on the horse’s state bred or state of residence may be available if sponsored by the state breeders’ organization or another organization. Awards will be calculated based on all points for eligible horses unless otherwise requested by the sponsor. In 2017 the following awards will be offered as of November 21, 2017:

Alberta Bred sponsored by CTHS Alberta Division
California Bred sponsored by California Thoroughbred Breeders Association
Kentucky Residing sponsored by Kentucky Horse Council
Maryland Bred sponsored by Maryland Horse Breeders Association
North Carolina Bred or Residing sponsored by North Carolina Thoroughbred Association
Pennsylvania Bred sponsored by Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association
Washington Bred Sponsored by Washington TBOA

I forgot my T.I.P. number, so I should just create another account right?
 
NO, do not create another account. T.I.P. Numbers are account specific - you can only access your T.I.P. Number by logging into the same account. Keep your username and password in a safe place. Do not create more than one account. If you forgot your user id,or password please use the links under My Account to retrieve or reset them.

If you have already have multiple usernames associated with your email address, the links will not work - please contact tjctip@jockeyclub.com for assistance to resolve the multiple usernames.

The next great holiday gifts - Microchips???

Is a microchip on your horse's holiday gift list this year? The Jockey Club offers microchips for $15 each (plus tax in New York and Kentucky). AND Reporting of the microchip number for Thoroughbreds to The Jockey Club is included with the cost of the microchip. Microchips may be helpful in establishing identity of Thoroughbreds involved in horse shows and in the event a horse is lost or stolen. Additionally, as of Dec. 1, 2017, US Equestrian will require a microchip for classes that require USHJA horse registration.
