October 2020

Dear Patrons,

I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome you have given me during my first few months as Director of the library.  You have been kind and patient as I learn how to do my new job.  I love being in the library and I have enjoyed seeing many of my Salem friends there.  I have also loved meeting and getting to know a lot of library patrons I didn’t know.  Salem is a special place and the library is an important part of what makes this community great.  I feel lucky to spend time in a place where I am surrounded by wonderful books and wonderful people! My  Aunt Lucy used to volunteer at the library and she always talked about how much she loved it here.  I couldn’t agree more!  I look forward to seeing all of you soon!

The Bancroft Public Library, along with the Salem Central School Elementary Library, and Books In Kid’s Hands, is pleased to announce our very first StoryWalk!  Starting Monday, October 19th, kids (with an adult) are invited to read the book The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin  by Joe Troiano, by starting at the Bancroft Public Library where they will read the first few pages of the book.  Then they will take a walk through town to different businesses where there will be two pages of the book at each place. The walk will also end at the library!  If you come to the library, the StoryWalk instructions are right outside the door (The library doesn’t need to be open to participate in the StoryWalk).  Come take a stroll through Salem and enjoy a great book with an awesome message for kids!!!  The StoryWalk will be open through Halloween!

(You can visit or for more resources.  StoryWalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and was developed with the help of Rachel-Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.)
