#stopasianhate – How You Can Take Action
We ask our Engage Falmouth community to condemn the recent spate of anti-Asian racism and violence, and support our local Asian community and businesses. We’ve been alarmed by the escalation in violent incidents against Asian-origin people and their communities across the nation, including brutal assaults on the elderly.
This violence, along with the racism and xenophobia it represents, is real. Anti-Asian racism is not new in America, but in recent years we’ve seen dramatic increases fueled by the last administration’s anti-immigrant rhetoric. This past year we’ve seen another spike fueled by propagation of misinformation and scapegoating regarding the coronavirus pandemic, and in the last few weeks we’ve seen it has further escalated into a series of physical attacks, causing injuries and at least one death.
We cannot stand idly by in the face of these injustices. We must acknowledge what is happening, condemn these racist and xenophobic acts, and support the physical and mental health of our Asian immigrant and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) family, friends, and neighbors, as well as their local businesses. Join us in taking action today.
Sincerely,
Engage Falmouth Leadership
