Support State Legislators who have co-sponsored the ROE Act
The
ROE Act is state legislation (H.3320 and S.1209) that aims to reform outdated state laws, preserve patient privacy, and make sure that access to abortion remains safe and equitable. The MA Republican Party has taken a page out of the president’s playbook by running Facebook ads characterizing Democrats who support the legislation as promoting infanticide and encouraging people to call these legislators. In order to protect the rights of all women, please make sure your state representative and state senator know you support the ROE Act.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD AT THE STATE HOUSE

Can't make it to the State House? Call or email your legislators to make your voice heard!

Even if your legislators are already SCA co-sponsors, they still need to hear from you to keep this bill a priority. RSVP on our Facebook event or using this form. Can't make the lobby day? DEMAND PRESIDENTIAL TAX RETURNS

Americans have a right to know that their president is not a crook and one important piece of information to make that determination is the President's tax returns. For 40 years Presidents have voluntarily released their taxes. Since 2016, that has not been the case. The time has come to require that piece of information from candidates who want to be on the ballot in the Massachusetts Presidential primary. Please support S.383 (An Act Restoring Financial Transparency in Presidential Elections) by contacting your MA Senator and indicating that disclosure of tax returns should not be optional.

ADVOCATE FOR SECURE ELECTIONS

Is there anything more important than secure elections in 2020? The recently introduced PAVE (Protect American Votes & Elections) Act is crucial for securing 2020 from hacking and must be passed by NOV 2019 to go into effect by NOV 2020. Senators Warren & Markey are cosponsors and there will be a companion bill in the House. Please thank our Senators and urge your friends and family in other states to contact their Senators. Get sample text for letters, emails, and postcards here.

FUND OUR FUTURE - SUPPORT THE PROMISE AND CHERISH ACTS

Last week, we joined hundreds of others at the State House for the #FundOurFuture Day of Action to rally and meet with legislators to support the Promise and Cherish Acts to provide more funding for public education from Pre-K through college. You can help by calling or emailing your state legislators to ask them to pass both bills - check this resource to find out if your legislators support these bills and get contact information and sample scripts

SAVE LADY WHALES

Right whales are one of the most endangered large whale species on the planet: there are only 411 left in existence, with less than 100 breeding females. Every year, around half of the remaining North American right whale population spend two months feeding in Cape Cod Bay on their way from their calving grounds in the waters off Georgia and Florida to Canada.

Nearly 90% of North American right whale deaths are caused by humans, usually from entanglements in fishing gear and ship strikes.
H.R. 1568, the SAVE Right Whales Act, would establish collaborative grants to fishermen, the shipping industry, non-governmental organizations, and researchers to reduce human impacts on the right whale. One idea that has been proposed is using technology to develop rope-less lobster traps. This legislation, introduced by MA Rep. Seth Moulton, has bi-partisan support and has been endorsed by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Special shout out to our friends in congressional districts 1, 3, 4, 7, & 8
We want to get the entire MA delegation supporting this bill and are still looking for help from the following districts: CD1(Neal), CD3 (Trahan), CD4 (Kennedy), CD7 (Pressley), and CD8 (Lynch). Here's a link to a letter that you can fill in and send. Even better than a letter is a postcard party! If you are interested in hosting a party, email us for special postcards that are stamped and ready to mail.

SUPPORT RANKED CHOICE VOTING

Take the Ranked Choice Voting Public Hearing Pledge
We want to make a big impact at the State House when it's time for the Ranked Choice Voting public hearing. Unfortunately, under state law, they only need to give us 3 days notice for the hearing. To mobilize fast, Voter Choice MA is now collecting pledges from people to attend the hearing. Please click on this link to let them know you can typically make it to the State House on a weekday to support RCV. They will alert people who have pledged to attend as soon as there's a definite date, time and location for the hearing. At that point, you can change your pledge to an actual RSVP.
The Muster is coming to your inbox on a biweekly schedule this spring.

Keep checking the MI Calendar on our website for the most current line-up of events and opportunities.

And join our Slack to stay in the loop!  Your input is welcome!
