February Newsletter

Congratulations to our SPECIAL AWARDS winners!!!

In December we sent a nomination form out to our members for three special awards:  Volunteer, Sportsmanship, and Achievement.  The nominations were reviewed and voted on by the Board and Committee chairs.

Our volunteers, members, event organizers, sponsors, and all of our supporters Working Equitation could not grow like it is in the United States.

Thank you does not even come close to expressing our appreciation to all the individuals who have gone above and beyond in volunteering, being positive, and working to achieve their WE goals.

These individuals were chosen to receive special awards and certificates.

Volunteer:
Jeanne Bond
Nomination Statement we received:
I nominate Jeanne Bond. She has supported WE for years, and has been absolutely indispensable in preparing documents for the Confederation, including databases, drafts of various programs and forms, and maintained the RULES. She worked on the committee to prepare and revise the rules, as well as on the Licensed Officials Committee and the Show Committee.

Volunteer:
Carmen Franco
Nomination statement we received:
Carmen has been very dedicated to the start up demands of the Confederation. She jumps in to help wherever we are lacking volunteers. Carmen translated our rules to Spanish. She has a strong drive and never ending work ethic.

Sportsmanship:
Kate Fowler
Nomination statement we received:
I have only recently met Kate Fowler. I have found her to be a great asset in the WE world. She hosted 2 WE shows this past Summer, she did so with grace and efficiency. She ran her shows well and still managed to show 2 of her horses in the classes also. Being from out of town I had many questions when I got to the show grounds. Kate took the time to show us everything we needed to know and then helped just a little more. She is a great supporter of this sport and an excellent example of how a competitor should handle themselves. I look forward to riding with and against her in the future. Thank you for considering her for the sportsmanship award.

Achievement:
Kim McBroom
Nomination statement we received:
Kim is a lovely rider. When I watch her, I strive to ride better myself. She always has a kind word and words of encouragement for fellow riders. When she has a bad ride or things don't go as well for her, she takes that information and makes the next ride better. Always positive and just a nice person.

Congratulations!

Exciting new program announcement!

Licensed Officials Instructor

We will be identifying individuals, through an application process, to become Licensed Officials Instructors.
https://goo.gl/forms/AR4iDhS6Au2gUsux2

You will be able to bring these instructors to your area and host a Licensed Officials Seminar.
If you would like to host a seminar in your area, please fill out this application:
https://goo.gl/forms/oMZjlBSxJRad1XJw2

We currently have two instructors:
Carmen Franco and Tarrin Warren.
We hope to be adding to that list soon!

Our goal is for the Confederation to sponsor one seminar per year for our “R” and “S” judges with an International judge. Details are being worked out for 2018. Our other Officials will be able to attend as silent auditors for continuing education.

Complete details on the program will be uploaded to the website in the next few weeks.

If you have any questions please contact us at: information@confederationwe.us

Working Equitation Tip from our "R" Judge Amy Star

There is a presentation mark in WE in the dressage phase and the EOH phase. You can earn a couple extra points here but you will not "win" the blue with the presentation mark.

Here are my suggestions:
1. Wear clean ironed/pressed clothes that are not faded and have a tailored look. Polish/wipe off your boots. While not required attire that matches the tack used will usually earn a higher mark than a turn out that is mixed in style.

2. Be complete in your turnout, add the appropriate accessories such as belt, gloves, chaps, pin, scarf, gloves, clean unscuffed helmet, hat that is well shaped, breast collar, all bridle keepers tucked in and spurs. Hair neatly tied up and fly aways at a minimum.

3. GROOM your horse thoroughly. Mane and tail clean and brushed out completely and "tamed" all to one side, bridle path neat or forelock/mane very neatly arranged if no clipped bridle path, braids are optional but if done should be complete and neat. Groom their legs try to get white socks/tail white. Tails look better if shaped or braided and neatly banged. Tails tied up are acceptable as well.

Remember the best grooming job cannot make up for poor feeding. A well fed horse will shine much easier than a thin unthrifty horse.

4. Tack should be clean and properly adjusted. Bling will not count over a well cared for quality working tack. Loop Reins must be long enough to allow the horse to lengthen their neck at the free walk while maintaining correct position. Split reins should be short enough to not to be distracting while riding collected work. Minimize floppy dangly bits of leather. Exccessively jingling, squeaking, clicking, popping noises of chosen tack detract from you turn out.

Remember presentation is only one mark. You could easily earn an extra point on EVERY mark if you just improve your horses acceptance of quality contact and improve their engagement. Which really can earn you the blue.

The updated Licensed Officials Program for 2018 has been published. Please check the website for the updated version. It is important if you are a currently licensed TD or Judge you read the program to understand your responsibilities to maintain your card. If you are interested in becoming a licensed professional then this program lays out the requirements to do so.

New Working Equitation Professionals Program!

We are excited to announce our first new program for 2018... the Confederation Working Equitation Professionals Program!
This program recognizes and promotes qualified clinicians and trainers who wish to grow the sport of Working Equitation. WE Professionals will be recommended to the public as having met the Confederation’s criteria for recognition.
Participation is voluntary and in no way does it imply those who choose not to participate are not qualified. This program will allow professionals to use Confederation logos, have their events advertised on the Confederation website and Facebook page, etc.
Not all professionals will choose to be involved. Not being involved does not mean a trainer/clinician is not qualified to teach working Equitation. This is a program available to professionals and will give our members a list of individuals who have had to meet requirements to demonstrate their knowledge of the sport.

If you have questions please email us at information@confederationwe.us

Visit the website to find out more!

https://www.confederationwe.us/we-professionals/

Thank you to our Licensed Officials Committee for their work on developing this program.

Contact information: info@KarMikAcres.com

Event location: KarMik Acres, Woodstock, IL

Clinician: Tarrin Warren (Confederation "S" Judge)

Event info: The clinic will be an hour and a half session for every two riders.  We are giving the riders the opportunity to either work on the dressage phase and/or the ease of handling phase (obstacles) or both!
In the dressage phase Tarrin will be going over the specific maneuvers that they are wanting in Working Equitation which is slightly different than that of a regular dressage test.  They are looking for dressage with an application for function in the field,  so the movements and maneuvers desired are more classical and will directly relate to the other phases.
Tarrin will go over the patterns,  the maneuvers and how to get you and your horse to the level needed. You do not have to ride in dressage tack or even know how to ride a pattern. She is willing to teach at all levels on the dressage phase. This is a required phase in any Working Equitation show you will ride in and we highly recommend having one of your sessions with Tarrin be a dressage session!

In the Ease of Handling phase Tarrin will be working with you on Working Equitation specific obstacles. The ease of handling phase is done with precision with a focus on connection and willingness.  Tarrin herself is a money earner in the sport and knows how to successfully develop a horse for ease of handling.  So you will get a double benefit from Tarrin's guidance- a judges perspective and a trainers ability.

Riders options:
1 session 1 day: Dressage phase $125 for the session
1 session 1 day: Ease of Handling phase  $125 for the session
2 sessions 2 days: Dressage phase and Ease of Handling phase  $250 for both sessions.

Again sessions are 1.5 hours long and only have one additional rider, thus maximizing your time with Tarrin and getting the guidance that you need.

Additional costs:
$10 haul in fee per day
Optional  $30 overnight stall fee (very limited spots available)
Auditors $20 per day or $30 for the weekend

It is the culmination of the two founding U.S. Working Equitation organizations and includes several active Group Member organizations and hundreds of members. The strengths of each founding organization (WEIAUSA and USFWE), which include event organization, judging accreditation, individual memberships, group memberships, horse recordings, high point and medals programs, youth programs, show sponsorship, among others, were considered in creating an alliance that will serve to better facilitate the needs of current and future members.

The Confederation is a growing, positive organization which needs and values all of its individuals and members. The Confederation is dedicated to growing Working Equitation in the USA and hope that you will join us as a member, a volunteer, sponsor and/or as an exhibitor.
