Tax Cut set for 2019!

On May 21, Chestermere’s City Council officially set the 2019 Tax Rate and included a 2% tax cut for Chestermere residents.

Watch the video from Mayor Chalmers for his thoughts on the decision.

Quick facts on 2019 Municipal Taxes:

  • Property taxes are based on the tax rate and assessment value of a property. If a homeowner’s property value remains the same as last year, residents can expect to pay 2% less in municipal taxes this year.
  • Tax notices will be sent in June.
  • Residents who pay in a lump sum must submit the full amount by July 31.
  • Residents who pay taxes monthly through the Tax Installment Payment Plan will see any changes applied to their July bill.
  • Residents will see a school tax included on their bill. This is set by the Province and the funds are sent directly to them. The City is required to collect this tax but has no jurisdiction over it.

Voyent Alert! notification system launches in Chestermere

A local emergency can have an impact on your commute, your work or your child’s day at school. Now there’s a way for Chestermere residents to receive location-specific and time-sensitive information during emergencies with a brand new app.

The app is free to download from any smart phone app store and all that is needed to register is a Chestermere postal code.

“The app will allow the City to alert subscribers to emergencies such as fires, storms, or highway closures and provide safety instructions specific to the event and the user’s location,” says Brian Pomrenke, Chestermere Fire Chief and Acting Director of Emergency Management.

Chestermere residents can set location pins in the app for their work, home, their child’s school or any other location they choose within the City’s boundaries.

Township Road 240 Update

Construction work on Township Road 240, Range Road 282 and the new Kinniburgh Bridge is well underway for the season and the work is on track to be complete in September 2019.

The underground utilities are complete and earthworks can now begin on Range Road 282 and Kinniburgh Boulevard to prepare these areas for the road sub-base and paving.

The new Kinniburgh Bridge over the WID canal is also progressing quickly and the first concrete bridge deck pour is complete.

Crews will now continue with deep utility installation of the water, sanitary and storm lines on Township Road 240. This will require a closure of Rainbow Road at the Township Road 240 intersection from June 10 – July 2, 2019. Detours are available using Garden Road or Highway 791.

Following this closure, construction in this intersection will be complete and no further traffic disruption is expected for this area.

The City thanks all affected residents for their continued patience while this work is completed.
