HELP THE CAUSE

It takes over 100 years for a natural hollow to form to allow our endangered black cockatoos to breed, but only minutes to donate towards artificial nesting boxes.

Free Verge Plant and Street Tree Program

The free verge plant scheme is a program where residents of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale can apply for seedlings and herbicide to assist in management and beautification of their verge.

Benefits include increased property values, reduction in heat sinks – particularly in urban areas, the establishment of nature and bird corridors, and a general increase in local biodiversity.  The program is funded by the Shire of SJ and managed by Landcare SJ.

The 2018 Free verge plant program has been extremely popular, especially with newer residents in the urban developments.  An unprecedented number of applications have been received, and unfortunately, the 2018 program has been oversubscribed.  As a result, some applications were unsuccessful.

However, applications for advanced street trees are still open and available.  Street trees make such a difference in our community, adding to the character of our unique area. Residents are eligible to have a street tree supplied and planted at their property.

If you would like a street tree, please email the Shire at info@sjshire.wa.gov.au or call on 9526 1111. Please include your name, contact number and address so the Operations crew can contact you to discuss available tree types and location.”

We hate to disappoint people and will be looking into different ways to extend the program in 2019.

Don't forget to get your applications in early when the program opens May 2019.
