Happy Holidays! I would like to take a moment to say “Thank You,” to you all for all of your hard work! It has been a fantastic year thus far!  

As we reach this year's half waypoint, I would like to pause and reflect on our successes. We have had a successful recruitment event, two community nights (three, if you count the one for this week), several repackaging events, and a distribution of more than 15,000 diapers, a DIAD with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, three socials, a sustainer DIAD and training!!
I am so proud of this League and honored to serve as your President. On behalf of the Board, thank you for your time, flexibility, enthusiasm and good will that you all bring every time to JLCV. 

I hope you all have some time to rest over this Holiday Season.

GMM: January General Membership Meeting & Implicit Bias Training

Date: Tuesday, January 8, 2019

Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m

Location: JLCV HQ 3060 Williston Road Suite-4

Details: All current and interested members may attend. This GMM features the rescheduled training by Karen Richards from the Vermont Human Rights Commission on Implicit Bias--the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner--as it relates to Diversity and Inclusion. 

The social will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the training from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and then the business meeting from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Hello from diaper land!

We had our first distribution of more than 15,000 diapers on November 16th to our five partners: The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and local food shelves in Williston, Richmond, Milton, and Hinesburg! It was a learning process and we are already making changes and honing our strategy for next time, but overall it went incredibly smoothly.

Going forward, we will only repackage the larger sleeves of diapers and instead affix labels to smaller packages. This will free up time to focus on other important tasks, such as spreading the word about diaper need, running diaper drives to increase our inventory, and fundraising more diapers! We have two repackaging/bundling events coming up before our next distribution on January 18th.

In the new year we will be looking to organize a number of local drives. If you have ideas for locations (schools, offices, daycare centers, or baby-friendly businesses you love, etc.) please get in touch with Amanda

Right now we are particularly in need of size 3s and 4s, so spread the word and please continue to share our Amazon wishlist on your social media channels.

Many people still aren't aware that 1 in 3 families struggle with diaper need. This recent article really hit home for me and is worth your time to read.  This is why we do what we do and the need is great in this area.


It indeed takes a village...shout outs to everyone who has attended a bundling event this fall and specifically to:

  • Cathy Foutz for being the liaison between our partners and the league and delivering some of the diapers herself. She went above and beyond and is such a rock star
  • Wendy Mustapha for being the MVP/Diaper Bank Maven of repackaging events. She has been at nearly every one and we so appreciate her commitment and enthusiasm--.and her mad math skills!
  • Rhawnie Miliorn for delivering a full carload of diapers to the Milton Family Center
  • Carrie Mortensen for coordinating all of our DIADs 
  • Charity Clark for spearheading our National Diaper Bank Membership application which will be submitted soon!
  • The DIAD "turkey volunteers" who helped transport more than 9,000 diapers to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf 
  • Kit Cahill for donating speakers. We now have tunes while we pack!
  • The Diaper Bank Committee for keeping it all running behind the scenes.

You have continued to rock out successful DIAD events!  Crews keep showing up time and time again to package diapers for the Junior League’s core mission.  These are FUN, quick events and if you haven’t committed to a packaging on the schedule, please consider doing so. While this is indeed a great way to earn your community service project hours through a DIAD, this is also a continual need.  We would love for all members to have participated in at least one diaper repackaging event by  the end of 2019!  There are several on the calendar and new ones will be posted soon.

In addition, the annual Food Shelf Turkey Drive was successfully completed on Saturday, November 17.  Thanks to those spending their time assisting the community in this manner.  Many also loaded diapers into their vehicles to deliver the highly needed diaper donation!  

There are still spots available in the last “alternative” DIAD event of this year!  We will be sorting books at the Fletcher Free Library on Monday, Dec. 10 from 4 pm to 7 pm.  Be sure to sign up ASAP as there is a limited number of spots they can accommodate.

The committee is currently working with the Diaper Committee as well as community partners to provide additional alternative projects and diaper repackaging events.  Keep an eye out for more DIADs posted and ready for sign up by the first of the year.
