Hi All,

I hope that you are all staying safe during these challenging times. Like many of you, my life was turned upside down last month with two working adults and two children under age four. However, I have access to food, shelter, and basic amenities (like diapers) and for that I am grateful. However, many in our community are not so lucky. We have received a lot of requests from individuals and organizations in the last several weeks asking for diapers. We are doing the best we can do get these diapers out to the folks that need them while also keeping the number of folks visiting the Diaper Bank to an absolute minimum.
Note that an acknowledgement of risk form must be executed by anyone entering JLCV Headquarters during this time to voluntarily assist with Diaper Bank operations and that advance permission is required.  All members assisting are required to wear gloves and masks while at JLCV Headquarters. For all other activities, JLCV Headquarters is  "closed."
Our Annual Meeting will be next Tuesday, April 14th.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we unfortunately cannot hold the meeting in person. We will, however, hold a brief meeting via Zoom (details below). At this meeting,  we will be voting on the slate, budget, and our bylaws.  In order to vote on these measures, we need to make sure we have quorum. In order to do this, we ask that folks please join us for this brief meeting; if you cannot make it, please submit the absentee ballot BEFORE the start of the meeting so your vote can be counted. Plus, this will be my last official meeting as President so I would really like to see you all there!
I am sending you all warm wishes and hope to "see" you next week!

An update from the new member class:

In lieu of doing the new member class project, at our retreat, we were ask to design our own challenge to benefit the Diaper Bank that we could take ownership of to contribute to the League in our first year as members. We chose to do a combination of a diaper drive and fundraising to collect as many Pull-Ups® and newborn diapers as possible, since that is the largest need at the Diaper Bank. The money raised will be used by the Diaper Bank to purchase additional Pull-Ups® to distribute. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 crisis has derailed our efforts, but we are determined to have as large of an impact as possible.

As you could probably expect, some of the donation boxes we placed have been locked up amid businesses closing for COVID-19.
  • However, I’m pleased to report that to date we have managed to collect 1,097 diapers (mostly comprised of Pull-Ups® and Newborn sizes);
  • Nine donated packages of baby wipes;
  • and $340.00 in donated funds!
Some of our new member class are focusing on collecting monetary donations at this time to finish off our efforts since physically collecting diapers seems to be at a standstill due to the pandemic.
2020-2021 RENEWAL & DUES
Annual dues for 2020-2021 will remain flat from prior years at $135.00 for all members - Active, Senior Active, New Members, and Sustainers.  Invoices will be sent out to all members from Quickbooks to their email on April 15.  Also included with the invoice will be a Membership Form which should be emailed to concurrent with payment.  Payment options include cash/check or online payment through Quickbooks. Online payments will include a $5 processing fee.  The deadline to submit membership payment for 2020-2021 is May 31.

Scholarships and payment plans will continue to be made available so that finances are not a barrier to membership.  Please contact Jennifer Papillo at to discuss.  All scholarship conversations will be confidential between the relevant JLCV member, JLCV Treasurer, and JLCV President.
Based on the announced 2020-2021 Annual Dues, and review of League finances, a proposed budget has been prepared for consideration by the membership.  A copy of the proposed budget has been posted with the Annual Meeting Notice (above) and will be presented at the GMM along with a financial report covering 2019-20 (FY 20), also posted above.
Members are reminded to submit Reimbursement Requests within 30 days of incurring the expense in accordance with the JLCV Purchasing Policy.  Even if you do not wish to receive a reimbursement, you must provide documentation so that your contribution may be allocated to the Annual Fund and the League can accurately capture operating expenses.  All reimbursement requests must be accompanied by an itemized receipt.  Photos of receipts are perfectly acceptable!

The Diaper Bank has continued to be operational during this crisis and we've expanded our partnerships temporarily to support the additional need. We've distributed diapers to the Family Center in Franklin/Grand Isle County as well as to the siblings of children in Head Start. Additionally, we've been speaking with Seventh Generation about facilitating deliveries of their diapers and wipes to organizations in the Burlington area.

We've been visiting the Diaper Bank one volunteer at a time and have been wearing gloves to increase safety for all. Official repackagings are suspended for now but if you would like to volunteer individually we can let you know what our needs are to prepare for our May distribution.

An article last week in the New York Times highlighted the great need for diapers and baby supplies right now due to the pandemic.
Thank you all for your ongoing support!

Hello Fellow JLCV Members:

I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. We had an Emergency DIAD at the end of March and early April. A few members were able to sew masks for the University of Vermont Medical Center along with Lyric Theatre. Thank you to Kit Antinozzi for picking up the materials, making masks, and collecting them. I believe masks are being collected at some point this week or next week. Thank you to Charity Clark, Karen Spach, Heather Bean, Heidi Bean, Amanda Herzberger, and Kit Antinozzi  for making masks for our local hospital.

We will not be planning any more formal DIADs this year. Please do be in touch with an emergency DIADs that come along because, as always, we try to help where we can!
Miss You All!
