It is hard to believe it, but the 2019-2020 League year is coming to an end. I am so proud of all that this League has done this year (and continues to do in the face of this pandemic). The women in this League are all incredible and I feel honored to have served as your president.

As the year comes to a close, I would like to announce the award winners for the 2019-2020 year (the awards will be formally presented at the Sept. GMM).

Our Rising Star Award recognizes an Active member who joined any Junior League in 2017 or later and has shown great spirit, dedication, potential, enthusiasm, and/or participation. This year's winner is KAREN SPACH.
In the words of one of her nominators, "Karen jumped in with both feet! She took on chairing the Ronald McDonald House meals the year after she joined, and is now the Community Vice President!! She immediately made solid contact with the Ronald House folks, and aptly filled the sign-up sheets for the monthly meals. She has been very involved in the Diaper Bank, participating in many re-packaging sessions - tirelessly - and helping those unfamiliar with the process. She has been chomping-at-the-bit this month to help more, and is dedicating her Saturday and her daughters to work in the Bank. And she is such a positive presence - a delight to work with!

Our Outstanding Member Award recognizes an Active or Senior Active member who has gone above and beyond to fulfill the mission and vision of JLCV. She exemplifies leadership qualities, is committed to training and growth, and makes a positive impact on the League and our community. Her dedication is exemplified by her “showing up” time and again. This year's winner is AIMEE STEPHENSON.

In the words of one of her nominators, "Aimee has exemplified dedication to the League. After serving as Treasurer (which is a very tough job) she took on the role of revamping our new member recruitment and on-boarding processes. Her hard work paid off as we have a great group of new members that have been supported and mentored by Aimee. Aimee has done a wonderful job and she deserves a big round of applause!"

As I reported at our Annual Meeting, we still have a way to go to reach our Annual Fund goals. That's because so many of you choose to make your donation along with your Annual Dues at the end of the fiscal year. That's great! Consider this a reminder to include an Annual Fund donation in with your dues. Even a small amount helps and lets prospective grant funders know the strength and commitment of our members. As a reminder of our different giving levels:
  • Annual Giving Circle (donates in any amount for 3+ consecutive years)
  • Mary Harriman Circle ($500 and above)
  • 1985 Club ($250-$499)
  • Red and White Society ($51-$249)
  • Friend (Up to $50)

You can donate online or by check to P.O. Box 4418 Burlington VT 05406. If you aren't sure if you have donated yet this fiscal year, you can reach out to Jenn Papillo or me.
Thank you to everyone who has donated!

We are working on new protocols which will include gloves and mask requirements when repackaging. If you or family members want to spend a few hours at the Diaper Bank (thanks Karen Spach, Kerrin Connors, and Cathy Foutz) repackaging please email Amanda and we'll start working towards our next distribution.

Seventh Generation came through in a major way with a donation of four pallets of diapers and six pallets of wipes--so there isn't much elbow room at the bank right now. We are seeing a much larger demand for sizes 4-6, so any donation requests will be geared towards those sizes. In addition, last week Amanda spoke with Congressman Peter Welch who expressed huge support for our efforts and success --thanks Cathy Foutz for making the connection through a staffer in his office!
We continue to support additional agencies beyond our typical food shelf partners including the Munt Family Room, Lund, Howard Center and a few others--everyone is incredibly grateful that we have the inventory right now to make that happen.

Thanks to all!
