Imagine having to choose between diapering or feeding your child. Imagine missing work or school because you don’t have diapers to send with your child to preschool. Imagine, out of necessity, leaving your child in the same diaper all day and night. This is the reality for the 1 in 3 families who struggle with diaper need.
Why diaper need?
No state or federal safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers and many prevent spending money on them. Families who don’t have access to bulk buying options can spend TWICE as much as some families to buy diapers.
What is the Junior League of Champlain Valley doing about it?
This year, the Junior League of Champlain Valley (JLCV) established Vermont's first permanent diaper bank in Chittenden County. We have already distributed more than 35,000 diapers to five area food shelf programs in Burlington, Milton, Williston, Hinesburg and Richmond. Our goal is to distribute 100,000 per year.
