This is a time of transition and a time of perseverance. I am so proud of my fellow JLCV members and the work they are doing everyday to keep our community strong and healthy.  It isn't easy and there are no trophies--but all over our community Junior League women are taking a stand and acting from a place of honor.  The grit and determination you all showed over the last few months is commendable and remarkable.  This is one of the reasons JLCV has a huge value proposition to its members.  We are a group of women committed to voluntarism.  And that commitment has made a big difference through the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Thank you.
New Roles for the 2020-2021 year started yesterday, June 1st.  Please reach out to the person who held the role before you or your Chair to acquaint yourself with the role.  We will be scheduling a Chair training asap for all members as well.

It is mandatory to sign the COVID-19 documents mentioned below.  Do not enter Headquarters without having done so.  We will be tracking this so that you don't have to.

Not only do you give your time but your participation in donating to the league allows for a more engaged group.  When speaking with donors or grantors, we want to be able to say we have 100% member participation.  If we had every member be a Friend of the Junior League, we would be in great shape.

I am aware that we have a few unfinished social outings.  Thank you to everyone who put so much work into our Retro Night.  It is very sad that we have to cancel, but with all the framework in place it will be a cinch to get it going again when the time is right.  We also hope to reschedule our May Potluck Party as well as the outgoing Board dinner.
Please know that your efforts are making a difference in our world.  In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.,  “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

Thank you and I hope you have an excellent summer!

The 2020-21 Slate is done!  Well, mostly.  Everyone who we understand to be committed to being an Active or Senior Active Member has been placed and should have received communication from me regarding what their placement.  We are very excited to have placed nearly everyone in roles that they noted as their first choice or were happy to serve in once asked.  This helps to ensure no one gets burned out and everyone stays engaged in both their role and JLCV in general throughout the year.

The gaps that we still have for next year are the Fundraising Chair and the Nominating & Placement Committee.  Both of these functions are areas that someone could easily double place because they tend to be event/time focused.  If you are interested in serving in either of these roles, please let me know and we can arrange a double placement.

Please take note of where you are on the slate and if you do not believe this is where you agreed to serve, let me know right away and we'll get it fixed.  It is really important for the success of our League to have everyone where they want and expect to be.  If you are new to your role, the person vacating your spot or your new chair should reach out to you in the next few weeks to get acquainted and make sure you understand the expectations of your role.

Enjoy your summer and we'll see you in your new role in the Summer/Fall!

Attention members, as of May 5, you are required to review and sign two documents before you may re-enter JLCV HQ.

As announced in the April newsletter, you are also required to sign an acknowledgement of risk form (Doc 1).

Vermont OSHA has developed and released COVID-19 training and protocols for all places of business statewide, including nonprofit organizations.
  • The link to the "OSHA training" being required by the state can be found here. It is a PowerPoint presentation.
  • (Doc 2) Once you review the training document, this link (found on page 45 of the powerpoint) will bring you to a fillable PDF. Simply enter your name in the white space, save it, and email it to
The fiscal year closes this month. That means it’s your last chance to donate to the '19-'20 Annual Fund. Your donation will support the tremendous uptick in diaper distributions since the COVID-19 crisis began and all the rest of the great work of our Junior League! It also shows potentially grant funders that our membership is committed to our League. As a reminder:
  • Annual Giving Circle (donates in any amount for 3+ consecutive years)
  • Mary Harriman Circle ($500 and above)
  • 1985 Club ($250-$499)
  • Red and White Society ($51-$249)
  • Friend (Up to $50)
You can donate online or by check to P.O. Box 4418 Burlington VT 05406. If you aren't sure if you have donated yet this fiscal year, you can reach out to Jenn Papillo or me.
Thank you to everyone who has donated!

CANCELLED: Retro Night: Making Diaper Need a Thing of the Past
to benefit the Junior League of Champlain Valley

It is with a heavy heart that we have canceled the Retro Night Fundraiser Event, as it does not appear large scale events will be allowed within that date, or at least not to the extent we would need. The event has been removed from Eventbrite and all tickets fees will either be refunded or put toward the Annual Fund, depending on preferences. Sponsors were also offered the option to transfer their sponsorship contribution to a future event.

We in the Fundraising Committee look forward to celebrating with everyone when the conditions are right and everything is safer.

All membership letters and invoices for 2020-21 were due on May 30. Please check your email spam filters if you have not received one. The sender is "Junior League of Champlain Valley <>."

When completing your Membership Form, you will see three payment options for 2020-21 dues - standard payment, bi-annual payment, and quarterly payment.  If these options do not meet your needs, please contact Jenn Papillo to discuss alternative arrangements, including the availability of partial scholarships.

Membership forms, payment plan selections, and dues payments in accordance with those selections must be submitted ASAP. If you are experiencing challenges, please reach out to Jenn as soon as possible.

The diaper bank has had quite an active month despite our very limited number of allowed volunteers. Huge kudos go out to Cathy Foutz (21 hours THIS MONTH ALONE), Karen Spach and family, and Kit Antinozzi and family for their continued presence and work at the bank! Amazingly, we are almost ready for our July delivery although we'll see lots of action and distributions to non-partners in the meantime.

This month a number of board and diaper bank committee members came together to work on a funding request for Covid-19/CARES funding, which is federal money being distributed to organizations & businesses affected by the pandemic. You can read the letter here. We've been following up with relevant legislators and you may hear from Amanda if you can be helpful by following up with yours (at this point we're targeting specific committees).

Our press release (thank you Sarah A!) was picked up by VT Digger and WCAX interviewed Nicole with a story about our distributions made since March 1st during the crisis (more than 140,000 diapers!).

Amanda spoke with Congressman Peter Welch by phone to update him on our efforts and via Zoom with Senator Tim Ashe -- that segment should air on his Facebook Live this week!

Since Nancy is moving (sob!), we had to clear our the nine pallets of donated Size 2 diapers we had stored in her warehouse. Six of the pallets were donated to our friends at the Vermont Foodbank and the other three were moved to donated warehouse space in Essex secured by Kit Antinozzi (THANK YOU!!). Nedde Real Estate is to thank for the space and Rice Lumber for donating their truck to move the diapers.
All in all we keep on trucking and helping as many families as possible. Thanks everyone!

In late May, Julie from Champlain Valley Head Start sent Nicole, Amanda, and the JLCV a note of gratitude. "You are community heroes," she says.
Greetings Fellow JLCV Members!

Thank you all  for a great year of supporting our local community through volunteerism. I am honored to serve as your DIAD Chair and I will be continuing in this role next year. I will be mapping out opportunities over the summer so please feel free to send suggestions my way.
