August is here!

Dear JLCV Members:

I hope everyone is having a joyful and restful summer! August is RECRUITMENT MONTH! We are hosting four mini Sip & See events in local spots (see below). Recruitment is paramount to the sustainability of JLCV as we need new members to be able to continue our wonderful community projects.
If you have anyone you think that would enjoy the hardworking sisterhood of JLCV, please pass their information along to Aimee Stephenson or invite them to one of our Sip & See events.

All JLCV members have now been placed in a role or in a committee for the 2019-2020 Junior League year. If you’re not sure of your placement, please feel free to email me or check the slate here.

According to our bylaws, we start our new placements on June 1. Of course, most of us won’t become active in our roles until fall. In the meantime, I encourage you to check in with the member who held your position this past year for tips and transition.

Last week the folks at REM Development kindly donated and installed some much needed shelving that will allow us to move UP and have two levels. This will help our organization and storage capacity and allow us to serve even more families. We're awaiting a loading dock upgrade which will mean that we can pallet fork deliveries in and out (a HUGE time and labor saver) and then we'll be ready to receive our ginormous NDBN donation. Hopefully by the September GMM we'll be organized and stocked. Once I know when the donated diapers are being delivered I'll put the word out -- we'll need all hands on deck to inventory them and get them put away in the bank.

In the meantime there are a few DIAD opportunities coming up -- working with Jill we've gone ahead and planned out the calendar through the end of the year so please look at your calendars and sign up when you are able.

The Diaper Bank Committee has continued to meet throughout the summer and had many outside meetings, too, laying the groundwork for some advocacy initiatives we hope to jump start in the fall. It's an exciting time and we thank you for your continued involvement!
For questions or more information, please contact Diaper Bank Chair,  Amanda Herzberger.
Happy August!

As we head into the fall, we have many great service opportunities at our Diaper Bank and in the community for our members. We have a tour at the Boys and Girls Club in September and two opportunities to participate in the Turkey Drive at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf in November.  Please sign up at
Save the Date: What better way to thank the Vermont Food Bank for storing 250,000 diapers for us than to participate in a Fall Sort-a-thon at the Vermont Food Bank.  We will need 12 to 20 members to commit by Tuesday, September 10.  The Sort-a-thon is Saturday, October 5th from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. at their warehouse in Barre.  Keep an Eye out for the sign up link!

Looking Ahead: I am currently in conversations with COTS for an April DIAD, which will entail some Spring Cleaning and Gardening.

Please save the date for the following repackingings and DIADs. Keep an eye on the JLCV calendar for DIAD registrations to open.

Association of Junior Leagues International News

Recently, the AJLI Board of Directors Governance Plan was posted on the Junior League Communications Exchange.  Check it out and get a glimpse at what is happening at the national level. Read the plan here.  (You will need to log in to the AJLI website to access the plan.)
Why did you join the JLCV?

Growing up in Colorado, we always attended the Junior League of Denver Holiday Bazaar. It left a great impression as a group I would be happy to be a part of.

What's your favorite part of being in the league?

I love meeting all of the members! It's wonderful to have a way to engage with people who you would not meet otherwise.

What are some other activities you do outside the League?

I like to travel, go to concerts, and entertain friends and family. I'm always cooking up something new, or crafting a fun cocktail.
I enjoy hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and water sports.

What brought you to Vermont?

I moved here six years ago. It was a great adventure as I was ready to try out something new.

What’s your go-to restaurant?

In Vermont: The Farmhouse, Leunigs, or 10 Railroad.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about making myself and others happy in their surroundings. It could be as simple as lending a helping hand, or as elaborate as creating a multi million dollar design scheme.
