Spring is sprung! Happy May everyone and I hope this season brings you a sense of rebirth and refreshment! We have an exciting  month ahead. Please note we must finish voting for the year with a special short meeting on May 10th that is just to review our new budget and to vote on it.  We will then be done voting for the year!

I'm hoping to see all of you on May 11th at Oakledge Park for our Covid-Protocol Safe End of Year Potluck Party. The membership team, led by Aimee Stephenson has worked so hard all year to give us safe opportunities to socialize. This year-end party is no exception. Wear your Junior League mask and come have some fun!
Please read on in the newsletter to learn more about our featured member, Jessie Robinson and more updates from the diaper bank!

As this is my last newsletter as President of this exceptional league, I wanted to take a few moments to reflect and thank you for all of your service to the community and your patience this past year. Figuring out how to navigate a volunteer organization through a pandemic was one of the biggest challenges I've faced. In the end, it was all of you, our members, stepping up and working together, keeping an open mind, and leaning in that made this year so fantastic. We managed in person meetings at a new location, ramped up distribution to hundreds of thousands of diapers, we held relevant, professional training via zoom and we even had a trivia night! The whole time I saw you all working together to stretch what was possible and to achieve what was necessary in our community. We've raised over a hundred thousand dollars for the diaper bank this year.  We've distributed nearly 1 million diapers since the diaper bank started a few years ago.  We've grown as an organization to be inclusive and recognized as a leader in the community. I thank you for your support during this year. I leave you with  the last few lines of Amanda Gorman's Poem, 'The Hill We Climb,' from Joe Biden's Inauguration,
When day comes we step out of the shade,
aflame and unafraid
The new dawn blooms as we free it
For there is always light,
if only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it
You are all brave enough to be it. Thank you and stay in touch.

Yours in Volunteering,

Becky Monty

Date: Monday, May 10, 2020
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m
Location: Zoom Video Call

JLCV Members are officially warned that we will be holding a special meeting to vote on the FY22 Draft Budget. All current and interested members may attend the Zoom meeting. Because we need a quorum in order to vote on the draft budget, please do your best to attend in person. Members who cannot attend the meeting may vote via Absentee Ballot, which is forthcoming.

Based on the announced 2021-2022 Annual Dues, and review of League finances, a proposed budget has been prepared for consideration by the membership.  A copy of the proposed budget has been posted with the Annual Meeting Notice (above) and will be presented at the special budget meeting along with a financial report covering 2020-21 (FY 21).

Our last meeting of the year will be our traditional potluck...yes, an in-person event!

We will meet at the first pavilion in Oakledge Park at 6PM on Tuesday, May 11th. Please sign up to bring an app, side, main, or dessert and bring your own drinks. We will provide plates, cups, napkins, and cutlery.

If the weather is bad, there is no rain date, and we will meet via Zoom

COVID: Governor Scott's reopening plan allows outdoor gatherings of 300 plus any number of vaccinated people outdoors. We will observe all COVID restrictions in place on May 11th and follow the Universal Guidance including spacing requirements and social distancing.

Thank you,
Aimee Stephenson
VP of Membership & Training
Why did you join the JLCV?
I joined Junior League to give back to my community in a more impactful way than just one-off volunteer activities as well as to meet new people. I did my New Member year in Philadelphia in 2019 and then transferred to JLCV in 2020 right after becoming an Active Member.

What's your favorite part of being in the League?
It's hard to pick a favorite! I have really enjoyed the time I have spent volunteering at the Diaper Bank this year. It has allowed me to get to know other members while helping those in my community. I'm really looking forward to doing more in person volunteer events in the future!

What are some other activities you do outside the League?
You can catch me outside! I love skiing, hiking, paddling, climbing, biking, and running. You can also find me reading, cooking, playing board games, or doing puzzles. Sometimes I have to tell myself to not pick up a new hobby...but I love trying new things!

What brought you to Vermont?
My fiancé started his pediatric residency at UVM in July 2020. The first time I actually stepped foot in Vermont is when we were moving to the state! Everyone told me I would love it, and it's true! Vermont is very similar to where I grew up in Washington state.

What's your go-to restaurant (dine-in or take out)?
The Scale in Essex Junction. Both the poke and acai bowls are delicious!

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about nature and being active outside. Even on the coldest winter days, I would throw a jacket on my dog and multiple layers on myself, and head out for a walk!

Members are reminded to submit Reimbursement Requests within 30 days of incurring the expense in accordance with the JLCV Purchasing Policy. All reimbursement requests must be accompanied by an itemized receipt. Photos of receipts are perfectly acceptable!

The month of April was a big one for JLCV fundraising, and that is due entirely to the amazing work of our dedicated members – thank you!

  • The April 14 Our House Community Night was a huge success!  The food was delicious, we were able to support local, and we raised $1,108.20 for the Junior League!!!  Thank you to Caitlin Dorka who took the lead on organizing this event.
  • The JLCV Diaper Bank has been awarded $82,000 of ARPA funding by the Vermont Legislature.  We are awaiting further information from the Agency of Human Services and the Vermont Foodbank on when funds will be distributed.  Thank you to Amanda Herzberger and Jessica Rossi for your leadership of the Diaper Bank and generating the funding proposal that was approved.
Thank you,
Jenn Papillo
We are still stuffed to the ceiling, with offsite storage too – a good problem though, as the state-wide need continues… Special thanks to a group who did major reorganization and clean-up last week – pictured  here: Kate Hampton, Katie Bazzano, Sarah Lenes, and Amanda.

We are awaiting finalization of the anticipated  $82,000 appropriation from VT Bill H.315, and information on when it will be received and when it will need to be spent.

Kudos to the New Members for their excellent Diaper Drives! Larissa Woods and Brittani Page dropped off another 1366 diapers, and Amy Sheridan’s collection at her PT360 office netted 1257! We continue to be the recipients of full barrels at Healthy Living and Kismet, and Sommers Chiropractic just delivered another 6,000 (!) from their recent drive.

Re-packaging Done-In-A-Day sessions, and assistance with readiness for distributions, are available through June, with more dates to come. Please sign up!

Thanks everyone,
