The Township of Muskoka Lakes held another Special Committee meeting on Monday, April 26, to consider the first draft of the revised Official Plan.
The highlight, with respect to our campaign to block the Lippa quarry application, was when Councillor Gordon Roberts voiced a number of concerns about the draft OP in terms of the need to maintain, or strengthen policies meant to protect water bodies and their watersheds from threats posed by aggregate extraction operations. It appears that Nick McDonald, the Meridian consultant, is reluctant to make changes to the relevant OP policies, despite being given clear direction to do so by the TML Council. Ultimately, it should be our elected representatives, who make these key decisions.
