The following was read by Joe Pat Smith, Chairman of Deacons, on Sunday, May 6, 2018. The paragraphs give information about the Churchwide Vote for a Pastor-Search Committee and upcoming process.
Sunday, May 13
During Morning Worship
Many of you have asked the question, “What is next?” for LRBC since Pastor Chris has left. Our purpose is to communicate with you as clearly and transparently as possible the steps that we will be taking from here.
Our constitution states that when a pastor exits, the church will form a Pastor-Search Committee to begin to seek out the next candidate for the church to consider for that role. This is necessary to protect both the church body and the future pastor and to ensure that the church is seeking God’s will in the midst of transition. Next Sunday, May 13th, we will pass out ballots for you to write in your vote for the Pastor-Search Committee members. The top 6 candidates that accept the call will make up this Pastor-Search Committee. The Nominating Committee will oversee this process.
The Pastor-Search Committee will be tasked with seeking out the man of God who they believe should be brought before the congregation as a candidate for Senior Pastor. The Board of Deacons recommends that the Pastor-Search Committee first consider Marc Reynolds as a candidate for the role of Senior Pastor before accepting outside applicants. The Pastor-Search Committee will report back to the church no later than May 27th with their recommendation – whether to put forth Marc as a candidate or seek outside applicants. Until that point, Marc will fulfill his role as Associate Pastor, as well as, take over the duties of the Senior Pastor in preaching, staff leadership, etc. Should the Pastor-Search Committee recommend Marc, the church will schedule to vote on him the following Sunday, no later than June 3rd.
In the event that Marc is either not recommended by the Pastor-Search Committee or does not receive the required 85% affirmative vote, the Pastor-Search Committee will continue their normal process, working alongside necessary committees in order to hire an interim pastor and continue to seek God’s direction for the future of LRBC.
Please be in prayer for the church and all those involved – pray for God’s wisdom and grace and for unity in spirit as we seek to follow Him through this transition.
