Welcome to "the root"
Whether it's a project or something we're working on internally, we're always looking for ways to share, connect and create a sense of place. Therefore, we have created a newsletter to share what's going on here at Clark Condon.

We chose the name "the root" based on its numerous meanings like established, grounded, growing and entrenched. After more than three decades in the business, we can relate to each one of those adjectives. Clark Condon remains rooted in our projects and dedicated to our clients all while growing and expanding within the built industry.
Please help us welcome Ryan Steib to the team!
Ryan joined Clark Condon in March and brings with him valuable experience he gained while working on domestic and international projects with studios in Boston and Houston. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University (2013), he has developed a passion for transformational spaces which allow people to feel a true connection between the built and natural environments.

The transformation will include climate-controlled spaces, shaded open-air market areas, restrooms, common selling areas, additional square footage, a playground and more. MLB Capital Partners is leading the project and put together a team of consultants including, Studio RED Architects, Clark Condon, Gunda Corporation and Arch-Con Corporation to complete this iconic market concept.

SPOTLIGHT // Josey Lake Park with our project manager, Andrew Konyha
Josey Lake Park, a 140-acre park located within the Bridgeland community in Cypress, Texas, offers residents a connection to nature, education, culture
and recreation.
Setting Precedent
Development in the Houston metro area requires stormwater detention and responsible planning and engineering. Recent events punctuate this fact now more than ever (We're looking at you, Hurricane Harvey). Collaborating closely with the developer, land planner and civil engineer, the design team could turn land typically designated for infrastructure into a premier amenity. Detention facilities need not be trapezoidal shapes with 3:1 slopes and channelized flowlines. By mimicking nature, these facilities can not only provide their baseline function of flood prevention but also provide social, environmental and economic benefits.

Approximately 80% of Josey Lake Park is located below the 100-year flood elevation. These areas are typically void of development. Taking into consideration the 5, 10 and 25-year rainfall event elevations, we were able to strategically place program elements throughout the site utilizing all available land down to the static water elevation.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council recently selected Josey Lake Park as the Planning Process winner in the 2017 Parks and Natural Areas Award competition. You can read more here.
