Surgical Site Infection Audit update

The second phase of the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) Surgical Site Infection (SSI) audit commenced on the 2 August 2017.

Following a second round of recruitment, we now have even more participants taking part in the audit, with 663 Audit Leads covering 464 surgical units across 140 NHS Trusts. Data analysis for the first period is underway, and initial results will be shared with the respective GIRFT Clinical Leads, with the final report expected early next year for full publication. We also plan to issue a summary analysis to all participating Trusts, showing their own data, and how this compares to the national picture. Certificates of participation will be sent out shortly to Audit Leads involved in data collection for the first audit period.

Registration remains open, so if you know anyone who is still interested in participating, please direct them to the link below.

General Surgery national report published

The national report on General Surgery has now been published. Trusts' data is now being refreshed, ahead of re-visits that will be arranged from later in the summer.

Surgical specialties litigation reports to be shared with trusts

NHS Trusts will soon each be receiving a surgical specialties litigation report, where they can review their litigation performance across all the surgical specialties.  The level of analysis will be the same as has been used in the litigation sections of the national or trust GIRFT reports. It is hoped that the report will encourage trusts to improve the data they provide to NHS Resolution and identify learning from claims data to improve patient safety and care.
