On April 6, 2021, Steve McEachen became the 43rd President of NCHCA. Steve is the General Manager of Aecon Construction Ontario East Limited, responsible for Aecon’s construction operations in Eastern Ontario. Steve has been an active member of the NCHCA Board for 5 years and we look forward to his term as President. Showcase your project at Public Works Week - NCHCA has been asked by the Ontario Public Works Association (Ottawa Valley Branch) if we have a contractor member that would be interested in showcasing a large, complex or challenging construction project during Public Works Week (May 17-21). The association organizes a series of presentations which will be held virtually this year. They are hoping for a presentation of an interesting job site with video that showcases the great work of the construction industry. Please contact Kerri Albright at to express interest.

Congratulations to Marathon Underground Constructions Corporation!

The 2020 Annual Safety Award was announced on April 6th, 2021 at the NCHCA AGM. We would like to congratulate Marathon Underground Constructors Corporation for the actions of Tim Laferriere, for reviewing locates noting that buried utility was to be exposed. Unable to find it, the crew refused to proceed with drilling despite the client’s insistence to proceed. Congratulations to Tim Laferriere and to Marathon Underground Constructors Corporation! 
NCHCA / City Liaison
The next NCHCA / City Liaison meeting is Friday, May 21, 2021, at 8:00 am.
Liaison meetings provide an opportunity for NCHCA and the City of Ottawa to discuss general topics related to City of Ottawa construction projects, processes, and initiatives and to promote relationships and collaborative efforts between industry and the City of Ottawa. Liaison Meeting Terms of Reference

Road Cut Permits 
Effective April 1, 2021, the City has implemented a new expedited stream for IS road cut permits with a 24-48 hour turnaround time. Please see the new Road Cut Permit Application Form.

Reminder of OHSMS Certification timeline

  • January 1, 2023 – contracts over $10 million
  • January 1, 2025 – contracts over $1 million
  • January 1, 2026 – contracts and subcontracts over $100 thousand
