Executive Director's Message
Hello families! We more than 10 weeks into the school year, and there are so many exciting things happening on and around campus! During the month of September, we saw our students begin to hit their stride with academic routines, our sports teams pull out a few thrilling upsets, and scholars enjoy trips to The Smith Center and UNLV. All this, and we are JUST getting started for the year! We look forward to the month of October and helping our scholars grow and continue to live out our DREAM values!

Nevada Star Ratings:
Last month the Nevada Department of Education released Star Ratings for all schools in Nevada. We are proud of the progress we made in Year 1 of our school. Please read below for our rankings:

DPAC Elementary -- 2 Stars (out of 5)
DPAC ES Showed strong growth in our math & English performance. However, we did not show enough growth across all scholars (particularly in our 5th grade classrooms) to gain more than 2-stars. We were 6 points away from being a 3-star school in 2017-2018. Our goal for next year is to be a 4-star school and on the path to 5-stars in 4 years!

DPAC Middle -- 4 Stars (out of 5)
The scholars at DPAC Middle earned a 4 out of 5 star rating in 2017-2018! They were able to grow above the state and CCSD average in math and English performance! While we are proud of this past year’s performance, we know the work is not done. The motto for 2018-2019 is #DriveForFive

DPAC High -- No Rating
Because the state looks at graduation rates from the previous school year to grade Nevada high schools, DPAC HS was not eligible for a rating this year. Although there were academic gains (as noted by our increased ACT average), we did not have a star rating for the 2017-2018 school year.

The first step to meeting our academic goals and putting our scholars on the path to and through college is to ensure children are present and on time to school everyday. The September Average Daily Attendance rates are below. With our collective efforts we can meet our 96% attendance goal in October!

Coffee & Conversation:
In mid-September we held our first Coffee & Conversation of the 2018-2019 school year. If you were unable to join, you can find the presentation at this link. Our next Coffee & Conversation is scheduled for December, 13 @ 7:45am.

Family Leadership Council (FLC):
One of the BEST ways to engage on campus is through volunteering -- either in the classroom or with the FLC. If you would like to volunteer in your child’s classroom, please contact their teacher to help set up a time to volunteer. The FLC is a collection of DPAC families who support the school in a variety of ways -- from helping plan school events to canvassing and spread the word about DPAC in the community. If you want to support the campus during our family events, please join us at our first FLC meeting on Tuesday, October, 9 at 4:30pm in the cafeteria.

Visiting Campus:
We encourage family visits on our campus during the school day. In an effort to ensure visits keep an undisturbed learning environment, we require visitors to follow these procedures when they come to campus unannounced:

  1. Check-in at the front desk with your picture ID

  2. Indicate which school (ES, MS, or HS) & classroom you would like to visit

    • If you would like to visit more than one campus, you will need to return to the lobby to receive a visitor’s badge for that school

  3. Limit your visit to 20 minutes

DPAC Happenings

Morning Drop Off:
We open the gates for student arrival at 7:15am. There is no DPAC supervision available before 7:15am. If you need to drop your child off prior to 7:15am, you can use our before school care partner -- Symbolic Art. If your child is left unattended at the gates prior to 7:00am, a Symbolic Art employee will walk your child to the program until 7:15am. They will then invoice you for the before school service. If you have questions, please contact Mr. Johnson.

Family Safety Letter:
Ensuring your child’s safety is our first priority. To that end, we have our school safety letter in English and Spanish.

DPAC Sports:
The fall sports season is coming to an end, but there are still plenty of exciting games left. You can check out the sports schedule on the DPAC Sports Homepage.
