Hi everyone,

Time flies and it’s already been a month since the first release of our newsletter in March 2017. And what a great month it’s been for all of us here in Espressif! Not only did we establish this newsletter as a new form of communication with all of you out there, but we’ve also been hard at work, releasing the latest version of Espressif’s IoT Development Framework, ESP-IDF v2.0, while organizing in close collaboration with Pycom a Hackathon which will take
place here in Shanghai on 17th April. You can read more about these stories in this month’s newsletter, as well as about the revamped M5Stack which will be based on ESP32, and a new book in Chinese regarding ESPDuino
On a different note, the IoT market is growing rapidly and so is Espressif. As things evolve in a fast-paced world, governments, companies and everyday people become increasingly concerned about their security and privacy when using the Internet. But we have a solution for that, too. ESP32, our 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo chip, provides the safest possible way of setting up the exchange of passwords within an IoT network. ESP32 can ensure security and privacy, because—with the added Bluetooth functionality—it performs the so-called handshaking, the authentication of a network’s interconnected entities, before the password is sent to them. So, the password is shared only when there is an already securely-defined channel for exchanging information.
It admits of no doubt, then, that ESP32 is the System-on-Chip of choice, when it comes to secure, reliable and versatile connectivity over the Internet. Your feedback so far has been more than just positive and this means the world to us. But we never rest on our laurels. We’ll continue honoring your trust in our products by working hard to improve our IoT solutions even further.

Best wishes,
John Lee

Hackathon in Shanghai on 17 April 2017

Maybe you have already read it in our News Section, but in any case we would like to remind you of the Hackathon we are organizing in partnership with Pycom on Monday, April 17th, here in Shanghai.

You will be able to borrow and/or buy Espressif’s ESP32 and Pycom's LoRa development boards, so you can then relish experimenting with embedded development, IoT networking and Python programming.

The first 50 people who sign up for the event will be offered a free LoPy kit with expansion boards and antennas by Pycom, while the second batch of 50 registered participants will be offered a free ESP32-DevKitC by Espressif.

On the day, we’ll also give prizes for the best use of LoPy, the best use of ESP32, and the best IoT solution. So, bring your laptop and come to our Hackathon! But don’t forget to register first.
