Sips & Stanzas Presents For the Love of Music
Music is a tool for self-expression, inspiration and encouragement, and the betterment of mankind. For some, it is a getaway from the issues of the world. For others, it is a device to combat them. Organizations such as Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity have taken on the task of utilizing music to impact their community and beyond. As leaders in the field of music, members of these fraternities promote the arts as a means of bringing peace, unity and comfort to those in need. Join us on October 17 for a discussion with members of these two organizations on the impact these fraternities have within the community and beyond. B.B. King's Iconic Fashion Comes to NMAAM
NMAAM recently acquired several items of clothing from the Estate of B.B. King (1925-2015) auction. Born in Indianola, Mississippi, King grew up singing in the St. John’s Gospel Quartet before embarking for Memphis and honing his musical acumen on Beale Street. Accompanied by his guitar, Lucille, King became known as the “King of the Blues,” traveling throughout the world playing the blues in major theaters, clubs, and juke joints, as well as at major blues and jazz festivals.
Mr. King wore this custom-made blue and gold abstract patterned suit jacket with black lapels at the B.B. King Blues Club grand opening in Nashville, TN. The jacket has embroidered on the interior "Made Specially for B.B. King/ King of the Blues." A label reads, "Exclusively hand tailored by E-House Custom Tailor." It is accompanied by a limited edition print by Bob Guthridge, signed in 2004 showing King wearing the jacket. We are excited to showcase these wonderful acquisitions in our Crossroads Gallery alongside one of Mr. King’s “Lucille” guitars on loan from the B.B. King and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola, MS.
