VCA General Meeting – November 18

7 pm – via Zoom

To meet the VCA bylaw annual requirements, we need to hold two meetings a year to keep our members informed.  The first one for 2020, our Annual General Meeting, was held October 14 and summarized the events and financials from May 2019 to April 2020.
All details of the October meeting including minutes are posted to the Website.  (Scroll down to the October meeting documents.)

On November 18, we will be updating you on our activities and spending from May 2020 to present, and our plans for the reminder of the year.

Why should you attend?

  1. See your neighbours over Zoom – “Did Shirley get her hair cut?”
  2. Find out what the VCA has been working on and how you can help
  3. Vote on a few MOTIONS (note, only members can vote)
  4. Meet our Lord Mayor.  Betty Disero will be providing you with a Town update and you will get a chance to ask questions.

Again, all the meeting documents are posted to the website for your review including:

How to attend:

The meeting is open to all residents of The Village, however only VCA Members can vote.

Which Grocery Store can we look forward to in The Village business centre?

Supermarket At the October AGM, the following question was asked for John Hawley.

Which grocery store(s) has (have) been approached?

John’s answer:

"We appreciate the interest our residents have in our obtaining a grocer.  Our discussions with potential grocers are confidential"

John will let us know as soon as the information is confirmed.

Street Light Conversion Update

In October, we told you about the streetlight conversion in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  The work should be done in The Village over the next t 2-3 weeks.

Here’s a reminder of this project:
Over the next 3 months, 598 streetlights will be converted to decorative LED fixtures in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  This will significantly reduce carbon emissions as well as costs.
LED lights

What does this mean for residents of The Village?
  • Light bulbs will be replaced to LED on streets east of Murray Street
  • Although typical street light fixtures measure approximately 20 feet, here in The Village, they are only 12 feet high, which provides us with more discreet lighting
  • Currently there’s an issue with some lights on Macdonell Road and a portion of Brock Street with LED lights without lens/globes and the temperature of the lights - cool vs. warm
  • The fixtures in that section of The Village will no longer have a lens however the Town is confident the new lights will be less intrusive while providing adequate light
Rest assured that the VCA has been in constant contact with the Town over the last few years to make sure we get the best possible solution for our community.

Christmas tip for garbage and recycling collectors

collectorAs we have a new garbage collection company working in The Village as of October 18, we have decided not to do a Village-wide Christmas tip collection this year.  The new company will, understandably, take some time to work through any issues that typically arise with taking on a new territory.  They will also need time to determine personnel requirements in this area for optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.

We will assess whether to continue with the program next fall.
