Annual General Meeting for the Village Community Association

We hope you plan to attend. 
Date:          Tuesday, May 15, 2018
Time:          Doors open at 6:00 for registration and renewal of membership
                    Meeting starts at 7:00
Location:   Auditorium – NOTL Community Centre
Agenda:
  1. Approve minutes of AGM held April 18, 2017
  2. Approve Financial Statements of the Association for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018
  3. Receive and update from the Executive on activities since the semi-annual meeting of the members held October 2017
    1. Advocacy with local government
    2. Social activities
    3. Village appearance enhancements
    4. Additional benefits of VCA Membership including new discounts
  4. Elect new members of the Executive
  5. Such other business as may be brought forward.
Bottled Water will be available for a donation to the Christmas Light Fund.

Call for volunteers for VCA Executive

Volunteer - yes we mean you!
President and Recording Officer.  
Both positions are for two year terms.
Other positions on the Executive: President, Treasurer and Communications Officer are not due to expire for another year.  So anyone joining now will have the support of the current team. 

Here’s the job descriptions for the two positions open:
Vice President (6 hours per Month)
To assist the President in performing his/her duties, focusing on advocacy for the VCA.
Recording Officer (4 hours per Month)
To prepare notices of all meetings, to attend, take notes and keep records of all meetings of the VCA Executive and Membership, and to maintain the official Minute Book of the VCA.

Are you a member of the Village Community Association (VCA)? 

Membership runs from May 1 to April 30 each year so your membership is due!   Thanks to our strong membership base the membership fee is still only $30 per year.  
You can join at the AGM meeting next week.  If you fill out the form in advance it might speed things up. 
Or fill out the form and drop off at the homes listed below.  We’ll bring you your membership card.

Village Community Association Garage Sale

Garage SaleSaturday, May 26 - 8:00 a.m. to noon (rain or shine)
It’s Spring Cleaning time!  Join the fun. 
The VCA Social Committee will be busy!
They are providing:
  • Advertising in Niagara Advance/St. Catharines Standard and Flyers
  • Maps to Garage Sale Locations in the Village
  • Balloons to highlight locations
Art in the Park:    Again this year if you have Art that you wish to sell, we will display it in the Art in the Park (good weather dependent) location on Brock Street between Kirby and Murray.  Art must have the name of the seller, phone number, and description with minimum and “accepted” bids included.   A member of the VCA will manage the art sales for you.

Gardeners Needed!

It’s that time of year.  The plantings will be arriving soon for the parkette on Garrison Village Drive.  The VCA purchases plants from the Town and our lovely garden volunteers plant them!  And maintain them through summer. 
Can you help?
Randy Churchill has volunteered to be Team Captain and co-ordinate the schedule.  He’ll let you know the Planting day to come with your tools and help plant.  And if you can assist with the weekly maintenance please add you name to the list.  There should be enough people that you are only assigned one week to check the beds for weeds and pull them and you are done!  It only took me an hour last summer when it was my turn.  And the gardens look so lovely!

A note from John Hawley

Hi Neighbours!
Looks like we may finally have spring! And that means it's that time of year again when many of us will be thinking of exterior renovations, repainting, garden sheds, re roofing, etc.
A gentle reminder to please make sure you send me an email or give me a call before you do anything to the exterior of your house as any changes must comply with The Village Architectural Codes. Most changes are easily accommodated but anything significant will need to be reviewed by The Village Architect, Rob Mackenzie. If anyone is considering repainting our primary colours are from the Benjamin Moore Historic Colours where there is a wide selection to choose from, but even though it's an easy process you still need to get approval beforehand. 
The Village Architectural Codes are registered on title to all Village properties and we are all bound to comply with them. All exterior changes need to be approved beforehand. They serve to protect and enhance our investment in The Village.
Also, if you're selling your home please make sure you get a Code Compliance Certificate beforehand to prove to the Buyer, and his lawyer, your house complies with The Village Architectural Codes. Buyer's lawyers will usually require proof of compliance just before Closing and that could really complicate things if not obtained beforehand. Feel free to contact me to order your Certificate. Agents familiar with The Village will likely ask you to obtain this so there aren't any glitches in the sales process.
