Protection of Civil Liberties
No surprise. The Reproductive Freedom Act, HB75 and SB15, have not received any votes in committee. If you didn’t get a chance to contact the committee members last week, you still have the opportunity to do so.
Send this suggested email to House members ONLY if you didn’t email last week. My name is — and I am from —-. I am writing to express my strong support for the Reproductive Freedom Act, HB75. The passage of the Heartbeat Bill in 2019 was a direct attack on the autonomy and well-being of half of Georgia’s population. It is imperative that women have access to all the rights and resources they need to make informed choices about their reproductive health. As a representative of the people of your district, it is your responsibility to ensure that all citizens have the ability to raise their families with dignity. I urge you to stand with the women of Georgia and support policies that protect their reproductive rights and access to healthcare. We deserve the ability to make our own decisions about our bodies and our families without government interference. Vote YES to move HB75 out of committee.

Protection of the Environment
Our partners at the Georgia Water Coalition have made us aware that for some reason fees collected from hazardous waste and sludge substance from farmers were omitted from the Constitutional Trust Funds by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. If you remember from the 2020 election, there was a ballot measure which overwhelmingly passed ensuring that fees collected for hazardous waste disposal are used for the programs for which they were collected. (Think fees collected when purchasing new tires used for proper disposal of tires.) House Bill 31 (HB31) corrects that error. The bill has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee with members listed below and has bipartisan support.
Contact the committee members with the suggested script: My name is — and I am from —-. Please correct the omission of hazardous waste disposal fees to the Constitutional Trust Funds. Cleaning up hazardous waste sites is expensive and the funds collected need to be dedicated for that purpose. Vote Yes on HB31. Add “Thank you for sponsoring this bill” to the bill sponsors who are marked with an *, and if your Representative is on this list, make sure to tell him/her that you are their constituent.
