legislative update
March 2, 2017

Dear Perpich Community:

On Wednesday, March 1, two bills were introduced in the state House to close the Perpich Center for Arts Education effective June 30, 2018. We are of course disheartened to hear this but strong in our conviction for the continued importance, relevance, and essential role Perpich plays in the lives of our students, families, and alumni throughout the state both through the arts high school and the innumerable outreach and equity programs in which we are a part.

The board government relations committee is taking these bills seriously and its members have worked together to develop a comprehensive strategy including but not limited to: testimony that a board member and I will present at a hearing for the Education Innovation Policy Committee on Friday, March 3, meeting individually with legislators,
collecting impact statements, and continuing to engage in and champion the ongoing work of our agency. The students and teachers we serve throughout the state of Minnesota are the most crucial aspect of our work and we are committed to continuing this work.

I am confident that through our collective support, the importance of the Perpich Center for Arts Education and the impact it has had throughout the state of Minnesota for over 32 years will prevail.

I thank you in advance for your continued support and advocacy during this legislative session. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available. Please take a moment and share your story
here.

With gratitude,

Ahava Silkey-Jones
Principal | Perpich Arts High School
I invite you to read the testimony I presented before the
House Education Innovation Policy Commitee

race to justice planning
Students are working hard to plan thought provoking, informative workshops for the student body, staff, and faculty on April 13th. Please reach out if you have any suggestions for presenters.
global education
The Perpich French students will be traveling to France this spring. They will be in Paris for several days and in Fontainebleau where the students will be attending a French high school, practicing their French (a lot) and experiencing French culture while living with French families. They will be departing for Paris on Wednesday afternoon, March 22 and be returning on April 1.
class ring
 The Perpich class ring is student designed. Visual art seniors submit designs for the Perpich class ring. A committee of students looked at and discussed all the designs. This year they chose the design of Allison Baxter. The ring is made out of sterling silver and is currently on sale for $95.00. Students need to be sized for their class ring prior to purchasing, see Marla Riemer.
