I am about to start my summer holiday, but first I should like to share some of our recent repair cases with you.

On-site repair of 4 alubronze propeller blades - M/V Siri Knutsen

We often carry out repair of propeller equipment in our workshop, but we also often go to location for repair of the propeller blades.

This was the case when Crude Oil Tanker Siri Knutsen docked at Fayard in Denmark and needed repair of 4 damaged propeller blades due to cavitation. MarineShaft engineers went on-site to repair the 4 alu-bronze propeller blades.  We grinded and welded up the cavitated areas of all 4 blades on-site and completed with crack test followed by grinding.  

 
Repair of Air condition for the supply vessel Odin Express

Our RSW/Cooling/Freezing department went to another Danish harbor to go onboard the supply vessel Odin Express (A1 Offshore Solution) to carry out repair of the air condition system. We overhauled the SABROE CMO compressor and electric engine and pressure tested the system.

M/V Anette Essberger – Repair of rudder equipment

We specialize in complete rudder repair solutions. Yesterday we just completed a repair for the vessel M/V Anette Essberger.

Situation: Corrosion and bend on rudder stock & ovality in rudder cone


 
Repair carried out for M/V Anette Essberger:

MarineShaft received this Ø524 x 8920 mm rudder stock in our workshop together with the rudder.

We machined the corroded areas on the body and the repair of the rudder stock also included welding, heat-treatment for stress relies, blue fitting to the rudder and painting.

We also straightened the rudder stock and before we carried out the cold straightening a magnetic particle test was carried out by Force Technology witnessed by a LR surveyor.

The cone in the rudder blade needed repair as the first blue fit test indicated ovality. We machined the rudder cone followed by welding and re-machining. Final blue fit was carried out to the LR classification society fully approval.

M/V Nea Tyhi – Manufacturing of a new rudder stock followed by on-site machining and final fitting in Singapore

In June MarineShaft completed a job for the bulk carrier M/V Nea Tyhi while in dock in Singapore.

We manufactured 1 piece of rudder stock Ø520/7136 mm with stainless steel sleeve. We had the raw material in stock and were able to manufacture – pack for airfreight and have this 9,658 kg heavy rudder stock ready for shipment within 2 weeks.

We delivered the rudder stock for M/V Nea Tyhi with oversize on lower cone and on-site the work continued as 2 of our engineers went to location to carry out mobile machining of the rudder cone to fit the new rudder stock oversized dimension. The repair was approved by a Class NK Surveyor.
We can take care of the logistics including documents and wooden transport box/cradle etc. making sure your equipment is transported safely and with a reliable shipping company.
Right now, we have a similar job ongoing with on-site work in Curacao. I look forward to sharing this repair case with you next time.
