This Week's Simple Tip
Okinawa, Japan is a blue zone longevity hotspot, i.e. one of the places where people live extraordinarily better and longer lives than almost anyone else in the world. In small neighborhoods across the city, friends meet regularly to talk, experience life, share advice and even financial assistance when needed. They call these groups their "moai".
Built on deep support and respect for each other, the moai members count on each other through life's challenges. They view their group as a life safety net.
A few years back when I was going through a traumatic time, I was caught off-guard to see who was and wasn't there as my safety net. I realized then how important it was to spend more time and energy on my "moai friends" versus my more casual friends.
Who are the 3-5 people in your moai? As humans, we all want and need this type of support group. No one can do it alone!!
This week, think about who you spend time with and how they affect you. Are they "peeps" because of habitual time together, or are they truly caring, supportive and respective best friends? Also ask yourself, "Who are you in someone else's life? Are you in their moai?"
