Dislocation, Justice and Renewal: A Comparative Study of Three Exiles with Jan Flaska

Sunday, February 14, 10 AM:

Dr. Flaska on sabbatical in eastern Europe, turned his attention to forced migrations in a variety of places and times with a view towards injustice and resilience. In this talk, he will consider Lakota in South Dakota; Jews in Central Europe; and the Kanienkeha:ka Mohwak community near Montreal.

Jan Flaska is the Dean of Spiritual and Ethical Life at Deerfield Academy. Though a big title, he holds familiar and perhaps formative roles in the community by teaching, coaching and supporting the spiritual lives of students. Taking great interest in the spiritual formation of adolescents, Jan studied and continues to explore the impact of technology on personal adolescent spirituality. Jan's self-proclaimed soul-mate is Teresa of Avila who was both deeply rooted in the world she knew and way ahead of her time.
