Coping with Covid

Our new column Coping with Covid publishes reflections from the community on how they are getting through these difficult times. Today's strategy comes from TIG member Alyssa Bauer:

Podcasts
I’ve been listening to so many podcasts while I cook, clean, work, drive, knit, etc.

How to Survive the End of the World with adrienne maree brown and Autumn Brown.
Join Autumn Brown and adrienne maree brown, two sisters who share many identities, as writers, activists, facilitators, and inheritors of multiracial diasporic lineages, as well as a particular interest in the question of survival, as we embark on a podcast that delves into the practices we need as a community, to move through endings and to come out whole on the other side, whatever that might be.

Fare of the Free Child with Akilah S Richards
Fare of the Free Child is a weekly-published podcast community centering Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color in liberatory living and learning practices. With a particular interest in unschooling and the Self-Directed Education movement, Akilah S. Richards and guests discuss the fears and the fares (costs) of raising free black and brown children in a world that tends to diminish, dehumanize, and disappear them.

Jewish Ancestral Healing with Taya Ma

Jewish Ancestral Healing teacher and practitioner Taya Mâ Shere engages spiritual leaders, artists, activists and visionaries on their journeys of ancestral healing, embracing resilience, and ancestor reverence practices rooted in Jewish traditions and counter-oppressive devotion. May this offering be a portal of connection, that we may root in positive resource, remember ancient ways, reclaim and innovate new possibilities, and be deeply nourished by the well of our loving and wise ancestors.

npr's Code Switch

Hosted by journalists of color, our podcast tackles the subject of race head-on. We explore how it impacts every part of society — from politics and pop culture to history, sports and everything in between. This podcast makes ALL OF US part of the conversation — because we're all part of the story.

Finding Our Way with Prentis Hemphill
Finding Our Way is a conversation between Prentis and activists, artists and leaders to discuss how to realize the world we want through our own healing and transformation. This isn’t a podcast about answers. It is an exploration into ourselves, and the skills we need to create and embody the world we want.

Dolly Parton’s America: The story of a legend at the crossroads of America’s culture wars.

This Sunday, January 10, 9:30 AM: Greenfield's favorite Bubbe, AKA Rabbi Andrea Cohen Kiener, leads a yoga session for kids of all ages and their families. Yoga poses and breathing practices will be integrated with Jewish teachings. Look for an email with the link to our Families list, or email office@templeisraelgreenfield.org to get the Zoom link to join! All are welcome; free of charge.

Social Justice Shabbat Series

Join us for a series of third Friday shabbat gatherings. We'll share blessings and songs and then learn with a featured speaker on a theme of social justice. These Shabbat gatherings are free to attend; please consider a donation to support this and other programs at TIG! You can contribute by mailing a check or using our online donation page

January 15 at 7PM: Storytelling and Social Healing with Lauren Wolkstein.
Lauren Wolkstein is a director and a professor at Temple University in Philadephia, in the department of Theater, Film and Visual Arts. Lauren has just completed her second round of directing for Ava DuVernay's series, Queen Sugar, for the Oprah Network. Lauren will reflect on the role of film as storytelling, with a goal of opening minds and hearts. Musical guest Yosl Kurland for brief Shabbat rituals.

Coming up:

February 19: Farming While Black with Leah Penniman
March 19: Resilience and Hope in a Pandemic Year with Amy Leos-Urbel

Our real human needs to both give and receive are what allow us to have authentic connection. Please do not hesitate to request help when needed.
