Bracha for Face Masks

Elisheva Rogosa shared with us this excerpt from a recent column in the Forward by Michael Knopf: A blessing for donning our face masks!

I propose creating a new blessing for the actions we take to keep ourselves and each other safe and healthy during a pandemic: “You are bountiful, Infinite our God, majesty of space and time, who has sanctified us with divine commandments and has commanded us about protecting life.” Or, in Hebrew: Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha-olam, Asher keed’shanu b’mitzvotav, v’tzeevanu al sh’mirat ha-nefesh.

Film Discussion: Crescendo

A very interesting film is playing at Greenfield's own Virtual Garden Cinema, called Crescendo. It is loosely based on Daniel Barinboim's experience of creating a bi-national youth orchestra in Jerusalem.

Tikkun Layl Shavuot

Shavuot is coming up - Thursday, May 28, join us for a wide variety of text study and discussion beginning at 8PM and ending - for those who are able - at around midnight! We'll have small group study, song, text classes (Book of Ruth &), a discussion on the gifts of embracing mortality, a class called Hebrew is Magic and so much more. The Torah of Tarot for Self Exploration

Temple Israel has a tradition of studying esoteric topics when there is a 5th Saturday in a month and May is one of those months! We welcome special guest Myk Freedman to teach us about the symbolism and use of the Tarot deck. Tarot shares some roots with the Jewish tradition which Myk will also address.

Pre-registration is required at rabbi (at) to receive the Zoom invitation.

The session, which will include the recitation of the Havdallah ceremony (ending shabbat) is free and open to the public. Donations - appreciated - will be directed to the instructor.
