Magic: The Series

Saturday, October 31, 7 PM:
Continue our conversation with Rabbi Rhonda Shapiro-Rieser on the history of Jewish magic. Rabbi Rhonda is a student of primary documents from the history of Jewish medicine, magic, and healing. She is a regular and popular guest in our "Fifth Shabbat" series, a havdallah program featuring discussions of Jewish esotericism.
Please support this class with a donation of $10-18, payable via our online system.
The Zoom link to this program will be shared in our Friday How to Participate email. If you're not on that list reply to this email by noon Friday and we will send you the link.

Tikkun Olam Meeting

This Sunday, November 1, 4 PM :

The time is ripe for us to coalesce a new and coordinated effort of tikkun olam work at the synagogue around urgent and emergent opportunities to transform and repair racial inequities in our communities. By coordinating a cohesive tikkun olam initiative at the synagogue, we hope to engage members in our community to:

- Learn and live into our Jewish values around racial justice;
- Amplify and support local social justice initiatives;
- Self-study our own diversity and inclusion practices;
- Engage together, and with others in our community, in direct actions to support social repair.

The Zoom link will be shared in Friday's How to Participate email. Or, you could email Alyssa (email below) or reply to this and I'll send it to you.

Any questions, please contact Alyssa Bauer at agvbauer(at)

Join our A/V Team!

Open call to join our A/V production team!

We plan to continue to use AV recording and broadcasting as one of our tools for programs and services this year.  We'd like to train up a few folks on the equipment.
We may tape people cooking, singing (DISTANCED), leading services, and teaching. Some projects will need editing and some will be posted on YouTube.
If A/V recording, Zoom, editing and YouTube are skills you'd like to develop, please get in touch and we will add you to our list of producers.

Action Now

Reposted from Jewish Community of Amherst's Tzedek Email:

This "postcard"/letter" action was initiated by asylum seekers in the tent camp in Matamoros, MX, at the US/MX border, who are stuck there under MPP, the Migrant Protection Protocol, also called "Remain in Mexico". 600 postcards were written by people in the camp urging an end to the inhumane MPP, and delivered to Representative Vela of Texas, who gave them to Dr. Jill Biden.
The idea is to urge Dr. Biden to take on Ending MPP as her special First Lady Project. She visited the migrants in Matamoros in late 2019 and saw the horrible reality for herself. Now this action has become nationwide, and here is where we come in. Letters in support of the migrants’ pleas to end MPP will be flowing in from all over the US to Dr. Jill Biden, delivered to her by individual US congressional representatives.
The plan locally is to collect as many "postcards"/letters as possible, which then will be sent to Congressman McGovern's office; Congressman McGovern has agreed to get those to Dr. Jill Biden.
Please print out this POSTCARD/LETTER on your computer, and then sign your name, and write the name of your town and zip code after your signature. Please then send it in an envelope to:
Annique Boomsma
66 Harkness Rd.,
Pelham MA 01002
Annique will collect them all and send to the contact at Congressman McGovern's office, who has agreed to make sure they will get delivered to Dr. Jill Biden.
Thank you for participating. Please feel free to share this request with your networks!
All the best,
Karen Levine. Joan Epstein, Annique Boomsma

Silverthorne Theater is honored to once again bring to audiences an important piece of dramatic writing, The Tattooed Man Tells All - a vital voice in the telling of the stories of the Holocaust.  Peter Wortsman's gripping solo piece, was woven from a series of interviews conducted, on a fellowship from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, in Vienna in 1975 with witnesses to and survivors of the Holocaust, the scene of Western Civilization's worst excesses.
Silverthorne's filmed version of the play will be broadcast online by Silverthorne Theater Company on November 13-14, 2020 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at This production is a fundraiser for Silverthorne Theater Company. There will be a free live Zoom discussion with the playwright immediately following the viewing on Friday, November 13th. The Zoom link will be posted closer to the show.
