Class on the Amida

Thursdays, July 16 & 23, 5-6 PM:
The Amida/Standing Prayer: What Do You Stand For?
Led by Rabbi Andrea Cohen Kiener

The core of Hebrew liturgy is the Amida or Standing Prayer. It is one of the oldest prayers and one of the few prayers that is not simply lifted directly from the Bible. It was composed by our earliest proto-rabbinic leaders. In this 2 part class we'll discuss the structure, history and themes of the daily and Shabbat Amida.

Family Shabbat Blessing Circle

This Friday July 17 at 5:30 PM:

Welcoming all TI families, especially those with little ones, to a Shabbat Blessing Circle. These sweet gatherings will include simple shabbat songs, a word of Torah or a story, a time to exchange blesisngs and appreciations and all the basic shabbat table blessings, co-led by Rabbi Andrea and the families!

People are also welcome to show off their home made challah, beautiful kiddush cups, decorative place settings or any other shabbat delights you want to share.

Dismantling Racism: Conversation Continues

Sundays, July 12, 19, and 26, 10-11 AM: 
Dismantling Racism: A 3-Part Public Conversation
Led by Rabbi Andrea Cohen Kiener and Maggid David Arfa

Temple Israel is convening a 3 part public conversation exploring racial bias and the work of dismantling racism. We'll meet during the semi-mourning period in the Jewish calendar, before Tisha B'Av.

JCamp in a Box

PJ Library is partnering with the Springfield Jewish Community Center to bring families the next best thing to camp. If you have children between the ages of 6-12, you can sign up for the FREE JCamp-in-a-Box program, which combines hands-on activities with virtual programming.

Once you sign up for our JCamp-in-a-Box program your family will be able to pick up from the Springfield JCC and other locations a box filled with materials and activities that you can do with us virtually or on your own. You will also have access to the following:
  • Art projects, sports and recreational activities, and STEM experiments
  • Exclusive online JCamp content and other online enrichment opportunities via social media and in LIVE virtual settings to connect campers from all around the world. 
  • Activity guide and calendar to organize all the fun!
Opting in to JCamp-in-a-Box is easy! If you have not already signed up with the Springfield Jewish Community Center to participate, click on this link and fill-out the formSupplies are limited, and all requests for boxes are subject to approval by PJ Library Western Massachusetts. The JCamp-in-a-Box program is funded in part by a generous grant from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, in addition to other community sponsors. Lastly, if your child is between the ages of 9-12 they can sign up to receive free Jewish middle-grade books through PJ Our Way.
