Shabbat Services

Join us this Saturday, September 14, at 10 AM (and the second Saturday of each month) for a meditative chanting service led by Rabbi Andrea - spiritual sustenance for our challenging times. All are welcome. If you need childcare, please email and we will work to arrange that. Service followed by kiddush and conversations.

Temple Library Seeks Assistant

Do you love books? Are you looking for an excuse to spend more time with the fabulous collection of Temple Israel's Mary Myers Library? Well do we have the volunteer opportunity for you! Our wonderful librarian, Michael Hurwitz, seeks an assistant to help him sort and catalog book donations and with general library upkeep. If you would enjoy working on this, please respond to this email and let us know.

Michael has done a fabulous job receiving donations and cataloging our collection. Please take a moment to view the Mary Myers Library page on our website - our full catalog is there!

Glean with the Temple Israel crew at various locations at Atlas Farm in Deerfield. Harvest for a food distribution site which you have a connection to; or help us harvest for groups we already support. Take a weekly supply for yourself or a canning project. 8-9AM weekly on Sundays during the season. Contact Rabbi Andrea to go on the gleaners list for weekly announcements of meeting location and crops.

Rosh Hashanah Potluck Lunch

Welldone Writers

Marty Glaser, Jill Ingham, Flo Stahl, and Alice Thomas are all members of the Well Done Writers group.  They will will read from their selections of last year's writing at the John Zon Community Center on Monday.  September 16 from 11:30-12:15. This program is free, but registration is encouraged at 413-772-1517 (ext 0) to provide adequate seating.

Order Your Etrogim

JCA Trip to Israel

The Jewish Community of Amherst is going on a trip to Israel led by Rabbi Benjamin Weiner, and we would like to invite members of the Temple Israel of Greenfield to join us! The dates are March 5-16, 2020. Our plans are to visit the classic religious and historical sites, and we will venture off the beaten path to explore Israel’s agriculture and environmental issues and learn about its groundbreaking water technology. The Harold Grinspoon Foundation is offering a $1,500 grant to each individual, adult or child, going on a guided trip to Israel. Weekly Vigil in Support of Detainees at the Border

Rock and Roll with Felicia Sloin! For Children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Class meets in the library at Lander Grinspoon Academy. Classes begin September 11th, 2019! Jewish Family Jam is open to all- no experience necessary. More information:

September 13, 14, 15, 20, and 21: Ropes Play @Memorial Hall, Shelburne

Temple Member Marc Kaufmann will be in a play called Ropes, showing at Memorial Hall, 51 Bridge Street, in Shelburne Falls, on September 13, 14, 15, 20, and 21. The evening performances are at 7 p.m. The one matinee (9/15) is at 2 p.m. Tickets (cash or check) are $12 for the evening performances, and $6 for the matinee. Ropes is about three brothers, mostly on their way through airports, to get to their father’s last tightrope act. There’s a bit of both drama and comedy. It’s fairly short - less than 1 1/2 hours, including intermission.

Thursday, September 19, 2-4 PM: Author Talk with Lesléa Newman @ Jewish Family Service

Lesléa will talk about her journey to become a children’s book writer, and present and discuss some of her Jewish children’s books including Gittel’s Journey: An Ellis Island Story. Lesléa will also show a short film entitled “We Are a Country of Immigrants” in which she interviews Phyllis Rubin, her godmother and daughter of the real Gittel. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and books by the author will be available for purchase. Jodi Falk and Leena Newcomb present a free exihibition and presentation on reimagining healthcare through movement & music.
