Upcoming Events at TI

Shabbat Shuva Hike

Rabbi Andrea and Maggid David Arfa will lead a Shabbat Morning outdoor service & hike in observation of Shabbat Shuva at High Ledges, Shelburne Falls.

Bring your own water, and snacks to share at Kiddush. Challah and grape juice will be provided.

These 'services' will be experiential and meditative with the goal of connecting us to the land, tradition, each other and remembering the ever-present Source of Life.

Kiddush on the ledges; Back by 12:30ish.


Yom Kippur Schedule

All are welcome at Temple Israel's Yom Kippur services. Tickets are not required. If you wish to make a donation at this time, you may drop off or mail a check to the office.

~Kol Nidrei~
Tuesday, Sept. 18, 6:30 PM

We will stand for Kol Nidre in sacred community - many dressed in white - wearing our tallises for the ancient prayer of release, beginning at 6:30 PM sharp. Ellen (Liss) Nuffer will represent us in prayer for the Kol Nidre and the Yom Kippur evening service. It is tradition to avoid wearing leather.

  • 9:15 AM: Arrival/meditation
  • 10 AM: Services: morning service, Yom Kippur liturgies, Torah reading, and sermon.
  • 1:30 PM: Yizkor
  • 4 PM: Yoga
  • 5 PM: Yom Kippur Mincha and Torah service
  • 6 PM Neilah Service
  • 7:30 Havdallah and potluck break fast

Especially for families with young children! Celebrate the Harvest Holiday of Sukkot and welcome the Jewish day of rest, Shabbat, with freshly picked apples! Family-Friendly Activities will include music, stories, Shabbat Rituals, and more at Clarkdale Fruit Farms in Deerfield. Apples are $10/peck (with smaller bag options available.) Cash, credit, check, and SNAP accepted.

Peggy Davis
Art Exhibit @ JCA

In conjunction with the Amherst Art Walk on Thursday, October 4, calligrapher Peggy Davis will show a pop-up display of her original birth announcement and wedding, bar and bat mitzvah invitation designs. Her exhibit, Inspired by Tradition, is currently on display at the Jewish Community of Amherst, through October 29.

Peggy has designed invitations and announcements since the early 1980's in many styles and welcomes people looking ahead to planning invitations for celebrations to see examples of her work, 5-8 p.m.

Host an International Student

Jackie Walsh of Shelburne Falls is coordinating homes for several high school students coming from abroad to study at Western MA schools. There are students from Northern Mexico, Spain, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and more. Transportation for the students to and from school is provided. October 30-November 3: Cantor Linda Hirschorn artist-in-residence @ Brattleboro Area Jewish Community

BAJC welcomes nationally famed performer, teacher, and composer Cantor Linda Hirschhorn for a weeklong artist-in-residence program. Cantor Hirschhorn will offer three three-hour workshop/rehearsals for people of all ages and backgrounds. At the end of the week the intergenerational choir that has been working to learn Cantor Hirschhorn’s songs will sing at a Friday night service with her and share in a final concert program with her on Saturday night.  Workshops are open to all, regardless of age, musical background, or religious affiliation.
