Messages from the Principal, Kim Fraser

What an exciting start to the year!  The students have had a very busy Term 1 participating in many in class and out of class activities.  They had a great time at swimming, participating in the World of Maths, celebrating the wonderful diversity at YPS through Harmony day, the Easter Bonnet Parade and an awesome disco to top it all off!

We wish you all a wonderful Easter and safe school break.

Harmony Day

Every year our teachers and students present an amazing Harmony Day assembly.  We are extremely proud of our school community who celebrate every day, in many ways, the cultural diversity of YPS.  Each class presentation showed the many aspects of cultural diversity with the main message being ‘Everyone Belongs’ and that ‘We are different, but we are the same”.

Easter Bonnet Parade

We had a fantastic parade this morning.  This is always a joyful event where students display their artistic talents and their dancing flare!

There were some extraordinary hats and all students were proud to show them off to the parents and family members.  Thank you to all the enthusiastic parents and family who attended the event.

Arriving on time and attending school on a regular basis is extremely important for all students.  Their ongoing involvement in school supports their development in all learning areas and their social emotional health and well being. It is mandatory that all students from PP to Year 6 attend school and we actively support all students in attaining 100% attendance throughout the year.   It is also extremely important that students arrive on time.  The beginning of the day is a valuable time where students get themselves organised for the day and the teacher can provide an overview of the days requirements.  Students who miss out on this time can find is difficult to fully engage in the day.

What's Happening at YPS

Ultimate Frisbee

Jacob and Callum from Ultimate Frisbee were in the school last week giving the students some tips on throwing and catching a frisbee.  This was not as easy as it looks.  The students had lots of fun.

Fun Ultimate Frisbee activities are held at Yokine Reserve on Monday afternoons.  Check the website HERE.

Chess Club

The Yokine Primary School Chess Club walked next door to Carmel Primary School to play chess with their team on Wednesday 5 April. As evidenced in the photos, the chess games had serious moments as well as plenty of fun moments. Yokine students won their fair share of games, thanks to their regular practice at school every Wednesday at lunchtime. Next term, Carmel's team will come to our school to play in the art room.

Harmony Day with Kindy

We had a wonderful Harmony Week Dress up day! Thank you to all our parents for helping the children dress in traditional cultural dress or in the Harmony Day orange colour.

We were very lucky to have a visit from the Kindy Wombats. We all went for a walk around the school to show off our costumes.  We had a play inside the classroom and then shared fruit together. After fruit time, the Kangaroos and Wombats played in the outdoor area, sharing and taking turns and making new friends.  What a lovely time!

World of Maths Incursion

The World of Maths visited our school last week.  This is a unique traveling maths show that provides a range of mathematical games that students need to solve.

Students had great fun engaging with the with the many fun, colourful, hands-on, mathematical, problem solving activities.

Hip Hop Disco

Our first disco for the year was a huge success. A great night was had by all.  We would like to thank the parents and students who attended and assisted on the night.

A special thank you must go to the wonderful Ms Pilpel for the awesome job she did as DJ and to her sidekick Ms Greenway. Both teachers had students, teachers and parents up on the dance floor.

Thank you

Attention All Volunteers

Thank you to the many parents/caregivers that volunteer their time at our school. To keep within our guidelines, we need you to fill out a Confidential Declaration (if you haven't already done so) if you are helping out in class or volunteering at the school in any capacity.  These only need to be filled out once a year and are available at the front office.

Is your child’s medical record current?

If not, please ensure an updated medical form is completed and handed into the front office prior to any excursion.

Student Health Care forms are available from the front office.

Thank you if you have already given the school you child's current vaccination schedule.

If your child has had the final MMR (Mumps, Measles and Rubella) and Tetanus shot at 4 years of age, please bring a copy of that to school for the front office.

If your child has had their last MMR vaccination at 18 months, please still be sure to bring in an updated copy of the schedule when they have had their final Tetanus shot at 4.

Qkr! - YPS preferred method of payment.

Here's what our parents are saying about Qkr!:

“So glad I downloaded the ‘Qkr!’ app. I see many schools are using the payment tool now and It really does live up to its name. It is quicker! As a parent, it’s a simple way to select, pay and record school payments. No doubt for the school, it would also be easier to identify and allocate funds. Please do yourself and the school a favour and give the app a go. The less time school staff (and parents!) spend on bills, the more time there is for our children” Mrs Christie B – Possums
