New local Sarcoma researcher!
Introducing: Laura Riolobos, PhD
Laura Riolobos, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Cancer Vaccine Institute (CVI) at the University of Washington. She is in the early stages of developing a therapeutic vaccine to prevent the recurrence of liposarcoma. Dr. Riolobos is inspired by her best friend Fabrizia, who was diagnosed with a large liposarcoma in her abdomen at the age of 35. When Laura learned about Fabrizia’s diagnosis, she felt frustrated — learning of the few treatment options available to liposarcoma patients. As a scientist in cancer immunology, Dr. Riolobos felt she had to contribute to improving the lives of liposarcoma patients. This vaccine targets genes common in almost 100% of liposarcoma patients and aims to prevent recurrence after surgery.
I had the priviledge of a Zoom introduction meeting to Dr. Riolobos while she was on a family roadtrip. She is energetic and ready to make a change. Impacted directly by her best friend's diagnosis, she realized she had to do something. We hope to hear good things about her research in the future!
Thank you, Dr. Riolobos for being a Sarcoma researcher!!!!
