REFUGE MINISTRIES

All In for Jesus

Libby, thank you for sharing your story!

In the fall of 2018, newlyweds Steven and Libby drove past Shady Creek Farm when Steven felt a nudge to stop and talk with the owners. Zach Osburn happened to be outside, and they ended up sharing a life-altering conversation about the power of God. Libby had been praying for God to connect her and Steven to Spirit-filled people to do life with. "Was this meeting an answer to my prayer?" Libby wondered.

Since that initial meeting, Libby and Steven have decided to go ALL IN for Jesus. In addition to serving the church, tithing, and regularly attending Refuge: Sunday and Refuge: House Church, Steven, and Libby have been participating in a Refuge: Internship.

As part of the internship, Steven and Libby spend nearly every weekday morning sitting in Zach & Jordyn’s living room reading the Bible, praying and worshipping together. Then, Zach intentionally disciples Steven while they practice and learn farming skills.

“When Steven and I met, we were not following God obediently and we had not truly given Him our whole selves," said Libby. "We were doing drugs, smoking cigarettes, and not seeking God's guidance in every area of our lives. We had only given God what was convenient for us to give."

“Zach and Jordyn have seen us at our best and worst and loved us through it all. They have talked things out with me when I needed to process, counseled us in areas of marriage where Steven and I were simply lost and distraught, they have held us accountable to our word, and been friends to us."

"It has been through this Jesus-centered relationship, where I have been my true self (no secrets, no walls)...Now, I walk in true freedom from addiction,” said Libby.

This newly found freedom in Jesus is what led Libby and Steven to decide to get baptized this fall. Both had been baptized previously, however, Libby explained that sometimes people get baptized when they are in a new season with God or when they have had a stronghold broken off of them by the power of God.

God has taught Libby and Steven the importance of committing to a church family, submitting to authority, and asking others to hold her accountable. It is through these things that fruit grows. Fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. “These are the things I want to grow in my life,” says Libby. “Not walls, not secrets, not pet snakes.”
