Greetings and Happy New Year,
For some reason the lovely ladies of LDT decided to greet 2021 by subcontracting this month’s newsletter to their other (lesser?) halves — aka, Steve (yours truly, husband to Lauren), Jon (Meghan) and Chris (Corrina). I can only guess they are looking for about ½ the quality performed in twice the amount of time, but I digress. Hey, we can handle this, right guys? What could possibly go wrong?
For nearly 20 years, my marriage to Lauren has played out over the steady background music of open houses, interest rates and escalation clauses. Like a lot of couples juggling … well, everything, we gladly make choices to support each other’s careers, aspirations and goals. Lauren’s job can be all consuming — she’s always “on” for her clients, nights, weekends and holidays — to the point where we set a place at the dinner table for her phone and laptop so she can spring into action at a moment’s notice. It’s a demanding profession, and a very fulfilling one for Lauren, so as her partner I do everything I can to support her.
This means I’m the one who has the steady corporate gig with more predictable hours, health insurance and 401k. I serve as the unofficial LDT copy editor, sales coach and open house snow shoveler. I also enjoy a very close relationship with our 11-year-old daughter, Georgia, in part because of the many weekends the two of us have spent together over the years. Lauren’s career demands aside, would I have still had the opportunity to teach Georgia to skateboard, coach her basketball team or try out so many chocolate chip cookie recipes as her sous chef? Hard to say, but I’m thankful to have built a such strong bond with my daughter. I do know that I wouldn’t change anything about our family dynamic, and if this makes me the “man behind the woman” I’m pretty happy with that.
Yours truly, Steve

Edgemoor continues to be in high demand and with low turnover, it makes finding a home in this sought-after neighborhood tricky...

6223 Verne Street, Bethesda, Maryland
5 Beds | 5.5 Baths | Offered at $1,295,000
I am very familiar with this house, since I currently live here! Meghan and I were charmed by the white picket fence and the cul-de-sac from the moment we saw it. Since we purchased it in 2016, it has been a labor of love. We have updated almost everything (and our marriage survived each renovation), including the kitchen, all five bedrooms, six bathrooms, adding a mudroom, wallpaper/paint selections and extensive landscaping. Most importantly, you can’t beat this location, we are 5 minutes to downtown Bethesda, Whole Foods, and our favorite sushi place, Yirasai. Getting to DC or Virginia is a breeze with I-495, Mass Ave, River Rd, and MacArthur Ave corridors at our doorstep. We can walk to parks and ride our bikes to trails, not to mention the neighborhood sledding hill is in our backyard! We are sad to leave, but excited for the new buyers to come enjoy this special home as much as we have. Best regards, Jon
