Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation awards $20 million in environmental grants

This year, LDF announced its largest-ever portfolio of environmental grants, increasing our total direct financial impact to over $80 million since 2008. The new grants, $20 million to more than 100 organizations, were awarded for wildlife and habitat conservation, the defense of indigenous rights, and innovative grassroots efforts aimed at combating climate change and solving complex environmental issues.  Read more about our grantees and their amazing work >

Launch of the Lion Recovery Fund 

Lion populations have dropped from 200,000 a century ago to approximately 20,000 today, signaling an unprecedented crisis for both lions and their landscapes. In response, earlier this year, LDF and the Wildlife Conservation Network launched the Lion Recovery Fund (LRF), which aims to raise and invest tens of millions of dollars to support the most effective conservation efforts to protect lions and preserve Africa’s wildlands.  Read more >

Andrea Bowers, Climate Change is Real (Miami)

Art and the Environment initiative

LDF partnered with the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and Design Miami/ to showcase two artworks pertaining to the environment during the month of December. The works, which include a commissioned neon artwork by artist Andrea Bowers and a painting by artist Tomás Sánchez, are the first to be featured in LDF’s new “Art and the Environment” initiative, which explores and highlights the intersections of art and the environment.
